Left side above:

1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.

2. Remove the air cleaner.
3. Remove the EGR pipe.
4. Remove upper intake manifold

5. Remove the (PCV) crankcase ventilation valve (LH).
6. Label and remove the spark plug wires from the bracket at the rocker arm cover stud.
7. Remove the camshaft angle sensor (LH) or fuel hose (RH).
8. Remove the throttle cable (LH) or heater pipe (RH).
9. Remove the rocker arm cover nuts, reinforcements, cover and gasket. If the cover sticks to the head, bump the end of the cover with a rubber hammer. Do
NOT damage the sealing flange.

To install:

1. Clean the gasket mating surfaces with a scraper and solvent.
2. Install the rocker arm cover with a new gasket. Apply RTV sealer to the cylinder head-to-intake manifold contact points.
3. Install the rocker arm cover nuts and reinforcements. Torque the cover bolts to 72 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
4. Install the throttle cable. Torque the body and cable bolts to 14 ft.lbs. (19 Nm).
5. Install the PCV valve.
6. Install the EGR pipe; torque the manifold side to 20 ft. lbs. (28 Nm) and the head cover side to 4.5 ft. lbs. (6 Nm).
7. Install the spark plug wires to the bracket at the rocker arm cover stud.
8. Install the ignition coil and bracket and crankcase ventilation valve.
9. Install upper intake manifold

10. Install the air cleaner.
11. Connect the negative (-) battery cable, start the engine and check for leaks.

UPPER INTAKE(COMMON CHAMBER)
1. Relieve the fuel pressure:
1. Remove the fuel filler cap.
2. Remove the fuel pump relay from the underhood relay box.
3. Start the engine and let it run until it stalls. Then, crank the engine for an additional 30 seconds.
4. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.

2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Reinstall the fuel pump relay.
3. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
4. Disconnect the accelerator pedal cable from the throttle body and bracket.
5. Disconnect the charcoal canister vacuum hose from the vacuum pipe.
6. Disconnect the air vacuum hose and the vacuum booster hose from the common chamber.
7. Disconnect the following electrical connectors:
1. MAP sensor
2. Charcoal canister vacuum switching valve (VSV)
3. Exhaust Gas Recirculation VSV
4. Intake Air Temperature sensor
5. Engine ground cable
6. Fuel injector connectors
7. Thermo sensor connector

8. Tag and then disconnect the spark plug wires.
9. Remove the ignition module assembly with the spark plug wires attached.
10. Tag and then disconnect the vacuum hoses from the throttle body.
11. Remove the four throttle body mounting bolts. Then, remove the throttle body.
12. Disconnect the PCV hose from the common chamber.
13. Disconnect the fuel pressure control valve vacuum hose from the common chamber.
14. Disconnect the Evaporative Emission Canister Purge hose from the common chamber.
15. Remove the EGR valve assembly from the common chamber.
16. Remove the common chamber (six bolts, two nuts, and three brackets).

1. Install the common chamber. Torque the bolts and nuts to 17 ft. lbs. (24 Nm).
2. Install the EGR assembly. Torque the bolts to 78 inch lbs. (9 Nm).
3. Connect the charcoal canister purge and fuel pressure regulator vacuum hoses to the common chamber.
4. Connect the PCV hose to the common chamber.
5. Install the throttle body assembly and connect the vacuum hoses to the throttle body. Torque the throttle body mounting bolts to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).
6. Install the ignition module assembly. Torque the mounting bolts to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).
7. Reconnect the spark plug wires.
8. Reconnect the following electrical connectors:
1. MAP sensor
2. Charcoal canister vacuum switching valve (VSV)
3. Exhaust Gas Recirculation VSV
4. Intake Air Temperature sensor
5. Engine ground cable

9. Connect the air vacuum hose and the vacuum booster hose to the common chamber.
10. Connect the charcoal canister vacuum hose to the vacuum pipe.
11. Connect the accelerator cable to the throttle body and bracket. Adjust the cable so that the linkage rests against the stop when moved by hand.
12. Install the air cleaner assembly.
13. Verify that all electrical connectors and vacuum lines have been reconnected.
14. Connect the negative battery cable.
15. Turn the ignition key to the ON position for two seconds, then off. Turn the ignition ON again to pressurize the fuel system and check for leaks.
