Youprobablyshould,becausethiscouldhaveenormous
consequences.
Tedetailsarecomplexandsomewhattedious.Es-
sentially,itwasrecentlydiscoveredthatBarclayshadbeen
deliberatelycontributingtothefalsicationoftheLondon
InterbankOeredRate(iivov),theworldsmostimpor-
tantbenchmarkinterestrate.Teinterestratesonroughly
s:o1viiiioinnancialtransactions,oneverything
frommortgages,tocreditcards,tocarloans,tosavings
accountsaswellasuUuviusovviiiiosinsecurities
andswapsarecalculatedusingtheiivovbenchmark.

beenmeddling(albeitindirectly)withthepersonalnanc-
esoftensofmillionsindividuals,countlesscompaniesand
corporations,andultimately,entirenationaleconomies.
