1.0 PRPOSE
The purpose of this procedure is to describe & define a method for
carrying out bituminous painting on concrete/ masonary surfaces at sites.
2.0 SCOPE
This procedure shall be applicable for all types of bituminous painting/
coating on concrete/ masonary surfaces undertaken by the Company.

&.& 0ituminous coating 0itumen emulsion consisting of bitumen1 rubber
late2 to 3aried ratio /hich dries to pro3ide a
tough & fle2ible coating.
#.0 PROCE%RE
#.1 Responsibility
#.1.1 The responsibility for carrying out this .ethod ,tatement shall be that of
the !ro-ect *ngineer1 unless other/ise specifically mentioned in this
procedure. The Quality *ngineer/ !ro-ect *ngineer shall be responsible for
inspection & testing.

#.2.1 The cold applied 0ituminous emulsion can be used for the follo/ing
applications if not specified or as per Contract specifications/ or as agreed
/ith the Quality *ngineer.
/aterproof membrane for concrete and brick foundations1 retaining
/alls etc.
s /aterproofer for floor1 /alls including /et areas %.e. floors of
bathrooms1 kitchens1 balconies etc.
s a 3apour/ salt barrier to building facades behind granite1 marble and
stone cladding1 curtain /alling1 etc.
s a protecti3e coating and 3apour barrier to surfaces behind false
ceiling1 bulk heads and other areas.
#.3 Environmental conditions
#.3.1 *nsure that the atmospheric conditions are conduci3e for application of the
0ituminous painting/ coating as follo/s8
There should be no rain1 mist or fog.
The application temperature shall be from # degree to #0 degree if not
specified or as per Contract specifications/ .anufacturer;s instructions
or as agreed /ith the Quality *ngineer.
The en3ironment should be dust free.
#.& Surface preparation
#.&.1 *nsure that the surface is sound1 stable.
#.&.2 *nsure that the surface is free from dust1 dirt1 grease1 oil and loose matter.
#.&.3 *nsure that the surface is not /ater logged.
#.&.& *nsure that the surface is de3oid of holes and cracks and the holes are
filled /ith appropriate filled material as per Contract specifications/
.anufacturer;s instructions or as agreed /ith the Quality *ngineer.
#.# Paint Application
#.#.1 The paint shall be applied /ith a brush1 roller or as per Contract
specifications/ .anufacturer;s recommendations.
#.#.2 The painting system and the application shall be as per Contract
specifications/ .anufacturer;s recommendations.
#.#.3 The paint shall be stirred /ell before use.
#.#.& *nsure that the good 3entilation is allo/ed in case of confined areas.

#.#.# %n case of interior & e2terior applications1 minimum t/o coats shall be
applied if not specificied or as per Contract ,pecifications/ .anufacturer;s
recommendations.
#.#.: <or multi6 coat applications1 each coat should be allo/ed to dry completely
before the ne2t coat is applied.
#.#.= *nsure that the application of painting coat is uniform to e3en & specificed
thickness and the specified co3erage rate is attained.
#.#.> The final surface should be free from drips1 runs1 bubbles or any other
defects.
