so , this time I will explain how to make biodiesel from a material that is cheap and unused , the used

oil .
Here I will explain how to make biodiesel with scale experiments that can be performed in a laboratory
or at home
but before it, I will deliver a preliminary about the definition of biodiesel and why we need to create and
promote the use of biodiesel?

Biodiesel is an alternative fuel similar to conventional or fossil diesel. Biodiesel can be
produced from straight vegetable oil, animal oil/fats, tallow and waste cooking oil. The process
used to convert these oils to Biodiesel is called transesterification
Biodiesel began to be used because of the current fossil fuel has been very limited and scarcity
began to appear in several regions in Indonesia . other than that because it is made from
natural materials , biodiesel is much more environmentally friendly than fossil fuels . From an
economic perspective , biodiesel is also a very affordable price , because it is often made from
unused materials .

The tool you need are hot plate, to heat the used oil, sp
if you're trying to make at home , then the tools that you need can be customized needs

Now, lets me explain you how to make it
1.) add 2 grams of natrium hydroxide in 100 ml of 96% methanol to obtain a solvent or metoxyde.
why using methanol ? because in the transesterification process required alcohol as reactants ,
and in the industrial scale , methanol has a high economic value . Natrium here as a catalyst to
accelerate the reaction of substitution of cooking oil into esters
just let it stand for 15 minutes in order to mix thoroughly
2.) heat the used oil to a temperature of 55 degrees Celsius temperature control it to stay at 55
degrees celcius.
3.) then mix the solution metoxyde earlier with used oil, mix with not too high speed for 1 hour,
then Allow 4-12 hours until precipitation occurs
4.) Characterized by the precipitation of two layers of different colors with a dark layer is under the
so-called crude glycerin , while the top layer of translucent color , crude biodiesel
5.) Separate the crude biodiesel from crude glycerin , biodiesel has been separated heated at a
temperature of 70 degrees Celsius to remove the remaining methanol
6.) then go into the washing process by washing biodiesel with water mixed 1 drop of acetic acid to
neutralize the pH of biodiesel . after the next wash with just enough distilled water only ,
repeated for 4 times . each separated leaching process are separated by water washing .
7.) Biodiesel that has been clear then heat up to 100 degrees a few minutes for the water to
evaporate
8.) Biodiesel which has been heated and cooled can be directly used for automobile and diesel
engine industry

of course the answer is yes !
What can we conclude from all of this is that it is not as difficult to make biodiesel for what we think ,
the materials used were fairly easy to find . clearly we should use it as an alternative energy from fossil
fuels
