JUSTICE IS BLIND BUT JUDGES ARE NOT

The quotation holds great importance in modern day world. It urges that justice does not
discriminate on the basis of creed, color and culture. Essence of justice is equality and
impartiality. The spirit of justice is egalitarianism. Justice is meaningless if it is delivered by
biased judge.
Deliverance of prompt justice is the bed rock of progressive societies. Once ,Winston
Churchill was asked regarding revival of Britain after large scale devastation it suffered in the
World War II , he replied If judiciary is functioning properly then we will survive .His words
had great impact on the British society . The national resources were diverted in establishing a
just and forthright society. Judiciary was given powers to ensure implementation of the rule of
law and superiority of the constitution. Today, Britain stands as the hallmark of scientific and
technological development. It stands a global leader in socio-economic and political arena
amongst the World community.
All the developed countries of the World revere and respect Judiciary. Judges are
considered as guardians of public voice and champions of social uplift. In Japan, for instance, a
Parliamentarian would resign if he were accused of misconduct by the judiciary. Likewise, the
Royal family of Britain was inquired on spending funds out of the state granted limits. This
shows that Judiciary and the judges command highest honor in the eyes of the society.
It is unfortunate that justice is unavailable in the developing countries of the world
particularly in South Asia. Pakistan is also no exception. Judiciary has remained a toothless tiger
and a rubber stamp before the ruling elite. The law of necessity was approved by Judges to derail
the political process with the connivance of power hungry military men. Ultimately, the country
landed into political quagmire.
In the recent past, the image of judiciary was raised in the eyes of public, due to timely
Suo-moto actions. The poor got relief and legal protection to pursue legal action against the
mighty criminals. However, after the Model Town incident it appears the judges remained silent
in bringing the culprits to the books. None of the police officers or the parliamentarians is
charged and arrested for the brutal killings of the protesters. It shows that the law of the land
protects the rich and punishes the poor.
In short, justice is right of every citizen .It should be delivered on egalitarianism
foundations. Laws should be uniform for all and sundry. Justice is meaningful it is delivered on
the time and beyond any discrimination.
