Eight Pointed Flower

9 and 12 Afghan Blocks

Materials:
Worsted or Aran Weight yarn (I used Vannas Choice)
A Lamb B Radiant Orange C -Magenta D Aqua E Eggplant F - Olive
Crochet Hook Size I
Pattern uses American crochet terms.
Special stitches
Sc dec over 6 st: Draw up loop in next st, skip 4 st, draw up loop in next st. You will have three loops on hook.
YO and draw through three loops.
Bpdc- Back Post Double Crochet YO, insert hook from back to front from right to left around post of
designated stitch; yo and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook); yo and draw through 2 loops (2 loops on hook); yo
and draw through 2 loops (1 loop on hook)
Fpdc Front Post Double Crochet Insert hook from the front side of work from right to left around post of
indicated stitch on a previous row, yo, pull up a loop and work dc as usual.
Ch-3 at the beginning of a round counts as a dc in stitch counts.
Instructions for 9 version
Round 1: With A, Ch 4, join with sl st to form ring. Ch 3, 9 dc into ring, sl st to top of beg ch-3. Fasten off. (10
dc)
Round 2: Join B with sl st into sp between 2 dc. All st will be placed into the sp between st in this and next
round. Ch 3, dc into same sp. (2 dc into next sp) 9 times. Sl st to top of beg ch-3. Fasten off.(20 dc)
Round 3: Join C with sl st into sp between 2 dc. Ch 3, dc into same sp. (2 dc into next sp ) 19 times. Sl st to
top of beg ch-3. Fasten off. (40 dc)
Round 4: Join D with sc in any stitch, ch 5, sc in same st as beg sc, [sc in next 4 st, (sc, ch 5, sc) in next st] x 7, sc
in next 4 st, sl st to first sc. Fasten off. (48 sc, 8 ch-5 loops.)
Round 5: Join E with sl st in any ch-5 loop, ch 3, 6 dc into loop, ch 3, 7 dc into same loop, [(7 dc, ch 3, 7 dc) into
next ch-5 loop] x 7, sl st to top of beg ch-3. Fasten off. (112 dc, 8 ch-3 sp)
Round 6: Join F with sc in any ch-3 sp, sc in same sp, (sc in next 4 st, sc dec over 6 st, sc in next 4 st, 3 sc in ch-
3 sp) x 8, omitting last 2 sc, sl st in first sc of round. Fasten off. (96 sc.)
Round 7: Join A with sc in 2nd sc of any 3-sc petal tip. Sc in same st. [Sc in next 6 st, ch 6 loosely, skip 11 st,
(placing petal in front of ch-6 group. You will be at the base of the next petal,) sc in next 6 st, 3 sc in next st] x
4, omitting last 2 st. Sl st to first sc. (60 sc, 4 ch-6 sp)
Round 8: Ch 4 (counts as hdc and ch 2), hdc in same st, [hdc in next 7 sc, hdc in next 6 ch st (into each chain
dont hdc around the loop,) hdc in next 7 sc, (hdc, ch 2, hdc) in next sc,] x 4, omitting last corner. Sl st to 2
nd
of
beg ch-4. (88 hdc, 4 ch-2 sp)
Round 9: Sl st into ch-2 sp, ch 4 (counts as hdc and ch 2,) hdc into same sp. [Hdc into next 22 st, (hdc, ch 2,
hdc) into ch-2 sp] x 4, omitting last corner. Sl st to 2
nd
of beg ch-4. Fasten off. (96 hdc, 4 ch-2 sp)
Round 10: Join F with sc in any corner sp. Sc in same sp.(Sc in next 12 st. In next st, sc while picking up back
vertical loop of center st of petal in Rnd 6 below. Sc in next 11 st, 3 sc in ch-2 sp) x 4, omitting last 2 sc. Sl st to
beg st. Fasten off. (108 sc)
Instructions for 12 version
Work the same as the 9 Version and add these rounds.
Round 11: Join B with sl st around back post of any corner st (2
nd
st of 3 sc.) Ch 4 (counts as dc and ch-1),
(bpdc in next 26 st, ch 1, bpdc in next st, ch 1) x 4, omitting last 2 st. Sl st to 3
rd
ch of beg ch-4. Fasten off.
(108 bpdc, 8 ch-1 sp)
Round 12: Join C with sl st in first ch-1 sp of any corner. Ch 3, 2 dc in same sp. (Fpdc around next st, 3 dc in
next sp, dc between the st in next 25 sp, 3 dc in next sp) x 4, omitting last 3 st. Sl st to top of beg ch-3.
Fasten off. (128 st)
Round 13: Join D with sc in any corner st, sc in same st. (Sc in next 31 st, 3 sc in next st) x 4, omitting last 2 st.
Sl st to first st of round. Fasten off. (136 st)
Round 14: Join E with sl st around back post of any corner st (2
nd
st of 3 sc.) Ch 5 (counts as dc and ch-2),
(bpdc in next 33 st, ch 2, bpdc in next st, ch 2) x 4, omitting last 3 st. Sl st to 3
rd
ch of beg ch-5. Fasten off.
(136 bpdc, 8 ch-2 sp)
