CHAPTER 1
Introduction
1-1 Overview
The ATRIE WireSpan 3000 SHDSL (Single-pair High-bit-rate Digital Subscriber Line)
System provides full duplex capability of supporting selected symmetric user data rates of
E1 (range from 64 Kbit/s to 2304 Kbit/s) leased line services using a Trellis Coded Pulse
Amplitude Modulation (TC-PAM) line code over one non-loaded two-wire metallic cable
pair. The line speeds for transmitted and received data are multiple for lengthening the
transmission distance.
WireSpan 3000 device eliminates the need for repeaters or optical in the last mile (local
loop) or in the campus network environment.
The operation and performance of this specification is complying with symmetric SHDSL
spectrum defined in Annex A/B , ITU-T Rec. G.991.2 and ETSI 101 524
Using advanced equalization, adaptive-filtering, echo cancellation technology and
16-TCPAM line coding, WireSpan 3000 device compensates for line impairment, bridge
taps and mixed cabling. High immunity to background noise enables transmission of
multiple DSL lines in the same physical cable.
1-2 Application
1-1
Version 2.00
The WireSpan 3000 unit application provided with different network side interfaces/
customer side interfaces as follows below list. The data rate does not include G.SHDSL
overhead.
Framing overheads:
With E1 network side interface for Central side and E1 customer side interface for
remote. For full E1 or fractional N between 1 and 32 x 64 K data rate.
With E1 network side interface for Central and V.35 customer side interface for remote.
For full E1 (Unframed) or fractional N between 1 and 32 x 64 K data rate.
With V.35 network side interface for Central and V.35 customer side interface for remote.
For N between 1 and 36 x 64 K data rate.
With Ethernet network side interface for Central and Ethernet customer side interface
for remote. For N between 1 and 36 x 64 K data rate in 2 Wire mode.
1-3 Versions
Family of G.SHDSL transmission equipment offered by ATRIE, which also includes:
WireSpan 3000 standalone G.SHDSL access unit, for installation on customers premises.
WireSpan 3000 can operate opposite STU-R or STU-C installed in a central office.
1-4 Features
Version 2.00
The front panel provides control over the operation of the device. The LEDs provide
real-time indications related to the operation and status of the device.
1-5-2 LED and LCD Display
The LED indicators on the front panel indicate the operating status of WireSpan 3000.
Various indicators display status of line, status of data activity, alert condition, and test loop
activity in the system.
1-5-3 Rear panel
1-3
Version 2.00
The rear panel of WireSpan 3000 allows user to access to interface and power connections.
For details, see Chapter 2, installation.
As above rear panel, the E1/COD interface connecter is Terminal block and the xDSL
interface connecter is RJ-11.

1-7 Management
The management capabilities can be used to configure the WireSpan 3000 device
parameters and display status (alarm/events) messages, diagnostics information,
performance monitoring data, and test status, on-line log more than 100. These functions
are performed through a 16 x 2 LCD display.
1-7-2 Control of remote unit from local unit
WireSpan 3000 device take advantage of this characteristic to expedite the configuration,
management and supervision tasks related to the remote device. They are transferred
(downloaded) from the local device configured as local unit configured as remote, using
EOC channel.

Installations and Setup
2-1 Introduction
WireSpan 3000 is delivered completely assembled. It is designed for installation as a
desktop unit or mounting in a 19 rack.
2-1-1 After installing the unit:
Refer to Chapter 3 for detailed system configuration procedures using an LCD display
and 4 x keypads.
In case a problem is encountered, refer to Chapter 5 for test and diagnostics instructions.
2-1
Version 2.00
The maximum allowable line attenuation between the WireSpan 3000 E1/64K
Co-directiona link port and the network interface is 1000 Ft / 26AWG in general case.
2-4-2 V.35 Port Connections (For V.35 type device)
The Wirespan 3000 device user data port has a 34-pin M34-type female connector.
Connect the link cable to the M34 connector after setting pin-out configuration
corresponding to the interface in use.
Note
The various interface cables should be shielded, in order to comply with CE/FCC
rules. WireSpan 3000 device and its data interfaces will well even if the cables
are not shielded, but some radio interference may occur.
2-2
Version 2.00
Warning: Reversing the wire voltage polarity can cause serious damage to the unit!
2-5 Setup
After Installation, You must be to check below list:
The Power LED indicator always lights when WireSpan 3000 unit is powered.
The system will warming-up after 15 seconds.
The Activation Sequence and Preactivation Sequence comply with section 6.2 and 6.3 of
ITU-T G.991.2
The SHDSL system automatically activate start-up when the power of the STU-C and

Diagnostics and Troubleshooting
5-1 General
This chapter describes the WireSpan 3000 diagnostics functions, which include:
Status indications and alarms Section 5.2
Performance diagnostic Section 5.3
5-2-2 Alarms
WireSpan 3000 continuously checks if any alarm condition is present and generates a
corresponding alarm message.
WireSpan 3000 maintain an alarm buffer, which can store a minimum of 40 alarms.
Messages displayed on the LCD display have a similar syntax. Table 5-1 presents in
alphabetical order the alarm messages displayed on the LCD display, and lists the actions
required to correct the alarm condition. User can to map the message to table 5-1 and
tables 5-2 analyze the message information.

An unavailable second is any second in which a failed signal state exists. A failed
signal state is declared when 10 consecutive severely error seconds (SES) occur,
and is cleared after 10 consecutive seconds of data are processed without SES.
WireSpan 3000 also provides support for long-term statistics gathered over the long-term
interval (96 15-minute intervals, i.e., a total of 24 hours) for the E1 port. The additional
parameters included in this class are:
Long-term error seconds (24HR E1 ES)
The total count of ES records during 24 hours interval.
Long-term severely error seconds (24HR E1 SES)
The total count of SES records during 24 hours interval.
Long-term fail seconds (24HR E1 UAS)

You can access these loopback from the MAIN->DIAGNOSTIC Menu. The following
paragraphs describe the loopback, identified by their designation displayed on the LCD.
Version 2.00
The local DSL loopback is formed by connecting the analog DSL transmit signal provided by
the DSL AFE circuits to the input of the DSL AFE receive path, thereby replacing the signals
received by the DSL line interfaces. The test signal is provided by DTE connected to the
user port interface, which must receive its own transmission without errors while the
loopback is activated. The DSL loop will be disconnection automatic, if DSL loop is link-up.

Speed VS. Distance & S/N Ratio
This section is to compare G.SHDSL Loop performance and Signal/Noise ratio relation. Refer
to Table D-1 find user reference distance and acceptable SNR value. User can find the SNR
parameter display on Loop Status Menu. This table is only for user reference.
Test Condition
Firmware Version: GC 1.07
No White Noise and any crosstalk effected
Base on ITU-T Rec. Annex B Symmetric PSD Mode
SNR value is measured in Data mode status.
