Function Description

Overview

This text aims to help readers better understand M2000 functions and features. For a brief
introduction, please refer to Function List of M2000.
This document is a brief list of the functions provided by the Huawei M2000 for WiMAX.
The document is intended as a general introduction to the M2000 for WiMAX functions.
The network element (NE) in this document refers to the mobile communication equipment
managed by the M2000. The M2000 can manage WiMAX NEs and IP devices.
The M2000 can manage the following WiMAX NEs:

Basic Functions

2.1 Fault Management


WOFD-010100
Function: Centralized Storage of Alarm Information
Description:
The system collects alarms from the managed NEs and itself and stores them in the alarm
database. The alarms can be divided into fault alarm and event alarm. Fault alarm can be
divided into current alarm and history alarm. A fault alarm is generated upon equipment
failure. When the fault disappears, the alarm status is set to be cleared. The event alarm
notifies the user the event happened to the NE. An event alarm cannot be cleared. The current
alarm is a fault alarm not recovered yet. The history alarm is a fault alarm recovered and
acknowledged.

Function: Alarm Export
Description:
The Alarm Export function exports the alarms from the database to the file regularly. The
file supports the following formats:

HTML

The system supports the Latest Data Export and Earliest Data Export.
Latest Data Export: export the alarm data collected in a recent period to a file for the
analysis of other systems and users. The file that saves the exported data is located in the
default path of the server. The condition to be set includes Time.
Earliest Data Export: Export the alarm data that exceeding the predefined threshold to a file
and delete the records related to the alarms from the database to protect the database. The file
that saves the exported data is located in the default path of the server. The condition to be set
includes Saving Days. The data that exceeds the range of Saving Days is exported and
deleted.

The Alarm Export function is realized when the Centralized Task Management function is
enabled.

WOFD-010300
Function: Real-time Alarm Browse
Description:
The Real-time Alarm Browse function displays alarm information in real time in alarm
browse window. Displayed alarms can be customized according to filter conditions. Multiple
browse windows can be opened at the same time, each with a different condition group.
Supported conditions for the alarms are: NE, alarm severity, alarm category, alarm name and
time segment.

Function: Alarm Query
Description:
The Alarm Query function enables users to query alarms according to specified filter
conditions. Supported filter conditions are: NE, alarm severity, alarm category, alarm name,
time segment and alarm status.
The operation can be started from the topology GUI.

WOFD-010500
Function: Alarm Topology Indication
Description:
The Alarm Topology Indication function displays the alarm status of NEs on topology GUI. If
a NE has current fault alarms, a tiny alarm icon is displayed on the icon of this NE. The color
of the icon is the color of the highest severity alarm.

WOFD-010600
Function: Alarm Box
Description:
The Alarm Box function presents alarms audibly and visibly.
An alarm box is connected to an alarm terminal. The alarm terminal sends alarms to the alarm
box according to specified conditions. Supported conditions are: NE and alarm severity.

WOFD-010700
Function: Alarm Information Storage
Description:
The Alarm Information Storage function enables users to save the alarms in alarm query
window to files. Supported file types are: TXT, HTML and CSV.
All alarms or selected alarms can be saved.

Function: Alarm Printing
Description:
The Alarm Printing function enables users to print alarm information from alarm query
windows.
All alarms or selected alarms can be printed.

WOFD-010900
Function: Alarm Detailed Information Browse
Description:
The Alarm Detailed Information Browse function enables users to view the detailed alarm
information in alarm query window and browse window. The detailed information includes
recovery suggestion, location and knowledge base.

WOFD-011000
Function: Filter Condition Template
Description:
The Filter Condition Template function enables users to save the alarm query filter conditions
and alarm real-time browse condition as templates. The templates are stored by user. When
users use a template to browse or query alarms, users do not need to specify the display
conditions. The system displays the alarms according to the conditions of the template.

Function: Customized Alarm Field Display
Description:
The Customized Alarm Field Display function enables users to customize the alarm field
column in the alarm query window and real-time browse window.
The customization only affects the current terminal.

WOFD-011200
Function: Customized Alarm Color
Description:
The Customized Alarm Color function enables users to customize the colors of alarms of
different severity and different status. The color setting is applicable to alarm browse window,
alarm query window, alarm panel and topology map.

The Alarm Topology Location function enables users to locate the NE in the topological map
from an alarm in the alarm query window or real-time browse window.

WOFD-011400
Function: Alarm Auto Synchronization
Description:
The Alarm Auto Synchronization function ensures alarm consistency between the system
and NEs.
When the connection between the system and a NE recovers, the system automatically
synchronizes with the NEs to get the alarms generated during disconnection.
Upon receiving an alarm, the system compares it with previously received alarms to check if
there exists inconsistency. If the alarms on the two sides are inconsistent, the system re-gets
the missing alarms.

Function: Alarm Manual Synchronization
Description:
The Alarm Manual Synchronization function enables users to start synchronization of the
alarms between the system and the NEs.

WOFD-011600
Function: Alarm Periodic Synchronization
Description:
The Alarm Periodic Synchronization function periodically starts alarm synchronization
between the system and NEs. The duration between two synchronizations is one day.

WOFD-011700
Function: Alarm Acknowledge
Description:
The Alarm Acknowledge function enables users to acknowledge alarms. After the operation,
the alarm status changes to acknowledged. The system records the user and time of
acknowledge.
The system supports manual acknowledge and automatic acknowledge.
Manual Acknowledge supports users to manually acknowledge alarms.
Automatic Acknowledge supports users to set filter conditions. The system automatically
checks the conditions and acknowledges those satisfied alarms.

Function Description

The Alarm Unacknowledge function enables users to unacknowledge the acknowledged


alarms. When an acknowledged alarm is unacknowledged, its status is changed to
unacknowledged.

WOFD-011900
Function: Alarm Manual Clear
Description:
The Alarm Manual Clear function enables users to manually clear alarms. When an alarm is
cleared, its status is changed to cleared. The system then sends a command to the
corresponding NE to change its status on the NE to cleared.

WOFD-012000
Function: Alarm Auto Clear
Description:
When a NE finds a fault recovered, the NE generates a clear alarm and sends it to the system.
On reception, the system changes the alarm status to cleared.

WOFD-012100
Function: EMS Severity Level Redefinition
Description:
The EMS Severity Level Redefinition function enables users to change the alarm severity on
the system. After redefinition, the system displays alarms according to the new severity
definition. The severity definition on the NEs keeps unchanged.

WOFD-012200
Function: NE Severity Level Redefinition
Description:
The NE Severity Level Redefinition function enables users to change the alarm severity on
an NE. After the severity level is redefined, the NE reports the alarm based on the new
severity level and the EMS displays the alarm based on the new severity level.

Function: EMS Alarm Shield
Description:
The EMS Alarm Shield function enables users to shield alarms on EMS side. When an NE
reports an alarm that satisfies the shielding conditions, the system just discards the alarm.
Supported conditions are: NE, alarm severity level, alarm name, alarm category and time
period.

Description:
The NE Alarm Shield function enables users to shield alarm on the NE side. Then the NE
will not send alarms that satisfy the shielding conditions. Supported condition is: alarm name.

Function: Alarm Statistics
Description:
The Alarm Statistics function enables users to statistic alarms from multiple dimensions.
With this function, users will have a comprehensive overview of alarm distribution status of
the whole network. The statistical results can be shown in tables or pie charts.
Supported dimensions are: NE, NE type, alarm name, alarm severity level, alarm category,
alarm status and time.

Function: Real-time Alarm Statistics
Description:
The Real-time Alarm Statistics function enables users to statistic un-cleared fault alarms of
each NE. The statistical results will be refreshed in real time along with the generation and
clearance of the alarms. The results are classified to display according to different alarm
severity levels.

Function: Alarm Panel
Description:
The system makes statistics on fault alarms in real time and classify the results by status and
alarm severity level. The results are displayed in the alarm panel.
The alarm panel reminds users using customized alert tone and flickering icons.

WOFD-012800
Function: Real-time Alarm Printing
Description:
The Real-time Alarm Printing function prints alarm information in real time. All the alarms
according to specified conditions are printed.
Supported conditions are: NE, alarm severity level, alarm category, alarm name and time
period.

Function Description

The Alarm Knowledge Base function enables users to record experience of handling faults
into the knowledge base.
The alarm knowledge base supports import and export operations.

Function: Long Time Un-cleared Fault Alarm Indication
Description:
The system auto detects un-cleared fault alarms that have lasted for a long period, and then
prompts users by highlighting these alarms on the alarm windows.
The period can be customized.

Function: IP Device Alarm Management
Description:
The EMS manages the IP networking devices in the network in an integrated manner. In
addition, the EMS collects and displays alarms.
The IP networking devices consist of the following:

Function: Alarm Remark
Description:
The Alarm Remark function allows users to add remark information on alarms. The remark
information includes history operations performed on an alarm, operators, operation time, and
remarks. An alarm supports remark information of not more than 4,096 bytes.

2.2 Configuration Management

Function: Configuration Data Auto Synchronization
Description:
The Configuration Data Auto Synchronization function ensures configuration data keep
consistent. When the configuration data on a NE changes, the NE will send a notification to
report the change. The system then updates its database.

Function: Configuration Data Manual Synchronization
Description:
The Configuration Data Manual Synchronization function enables users to start
synchronous operation manually. The system will re-collect data from NE and refresh
configuration data in database.

WOFD-020300
Function: Configuration Data Periodic Synchronization
Description:
The Configuration Data Periodic Synchronization function supports periodic
synchronization of the NE configuration data according to user-defined conditions.
Supported conditions are: synchronization time intervals and start time.
The synchronization time interval can be set by hour or day. It must be integral times of an
hour or day. The maximum interval is 365 days, and the minimum interval is one hour.

Function: Configuration Data Query
Description:
The Configuration Data Query function enables users to browse the configuration data of
managed NEs .
The BS can only query the following information:

Carrier ID

Carrier status

WOFD-020500
Function: Configuration Data Export
Description:
The Configuration Data Export function supports automatically exports configuration data
to files according to pre-defined conditions.
Supported file formats are: CSV and XML.
Supported conditions are: export period and NE.
The data exported through the periodic export can only be saved to files of the XML format,
while the manual export supports both the CSV and XML formats.

The NE Bulk Creation function supports NE bulk creation from script files.

Function: NE Bulk Deletion
Description:
The NE Bulk Deletion function supports bulk deleting selected NEs from the topology GUI.

WOFD-021000
Function: Equipment Panel
Description:
System provides equipment panel of network element, showing information of rack and board,
alarms and status will directly be shown in equipment panel, user also can do some operations
such as reset board etc.
Operator has a more intuitionist topology to inspect status of hardware.

WOFD-021100
Function: Interface Tracing
Description:
System provides Interface Tracing function, include tracing Signaling Message and Single
subscriber Signaling Message, the message can be saved in tmf format or txt format, system
also supports online or offline browsing traced message.
By tracing interfaces and signaling links, you can perform data check and troubleshooting
Operator can get more detail information according to the tracing function.

Description:
The system centralizes the collection of network measurement data and stores the data in
database.
There are two kinds of measurement counters: Default Counter and Extended Counter.
The Default Counters are collected and stored by default by the system. Users can configure
the measured objects.
The Extended Counters are configured by users. Users can configure the extended counter
according to measured objects and counters.
The Default Counter and Extended Counter support 30 minute period, 60 minute period and
1440 minute period.

The Performance Data Export exports the performance data from the database into a file
periodically. The file can be either in .xml format or in .csv format.
The system supports the Latest Data Export and Earliest Data Export.
Latest Data Export: exports the performance data collected in a recent period into a file for
the analysis of other systems and users. The file that saves the exported data is located in the
default path of the server. The conditions to be set include Time and Function Subset.
Earliest Data Export: exports the performance data that exceeding the predefined threshold
into a file, and deletes the alarm-related records from the database to protect the database. The
file that saves the exported data is located in the default path of the server. The condition to be
set includes Saving Days. The data that exceeds the range of Saving Days is exported and
deleted.
The Performance Data Export is realized when the Centralized Task Management
function is enabled.

authority for operation is allocated to user groups based on the roles.

The NE user in the centralized management refers to the domain user. At present, only the domain users
of the ASN-GW support the centralized management on the NMS.

Description:
The User Authentication function conducts authentication for the operation and maintenance
users in the entire network.
When you log in to the EMS through client or to the NE through LMT, the EMS performs the
authentication by checking your account and password. Only with the valid user account, you
can log in to and operate the system.
For all of the operations through client and LMT, the EMS performs the authentication for
each operation. The EMS also validates each operation based on:

Authority that a user account has

Significance and scale of the operation

In this way, the operations that need extra authority of the users are prohibited.

authority is consistent in these two situations.
The NE User Management is subject to the previous versions of the NEs, that is, the
versions before the UMTS6.0. For the versions later than UMTS6.0 (including UMTS6.0),
you can use the Centralized User Management (WOFD-040100) to manage the NE users.

Description:
The NE user Online Monitoring function allows users to monitor all online NE users. The

hierarchy on the current subnet and the alarm status of the topology objects.

object when it is selected on the tree.

The client displays either the server time or the local NE time. The server time and the local
NE time are not displayed on the client at the same time.

The Alarm Remote Notification function notifies the maintenance engineer of alarms that
