Nowadays, more and more people decide to leave their homeland and seek luck elsewhere.

In quest
for success, they usually become immigrants in other countries, which offer them new opportunities.
The cultural differences between them and citizens can be quite substantial. Should one try to blend
in, or refrain from changing their motherland habits?
Common opinion is that, at least in reasonably developed countries, people are very welcoming and
will accept you no matter who you are. And it is true that there are no explicit reactions based on
your foreignness. But what is concealed under etiquette of everyday life is that humans have a very
clear sense of who is a native and who is an alien. Even if they do not exhibit any signs of aversion
towards you (and it can be the case sometimes that they are simply neutral), their decisions will be
influenced by you not being of a kind. It can ultimately lead to you being slowly excluded from the
society, even without realizing that.
Other possible reason for not turning into a real citizen is the problem of losing the sense of ones
identity. Many peoples point of view is that by reformatting your original culture you can no longer
tell who you really are, where you belong. This assessment is, however, not true. What define a
human being are its experiences, and we are perpetually flooded with new ones, while the old ones
fade away. Therefore your self is flexible, and changes over time. Even completely changing the way
you live does not shatter your identity you can become a different person due to some
experiences, but you remain yourself no matter what.
One more reason that can drive you to avoiding assimilation is the willingness or sense of obligation
to preserve and nurture your home culture. It feels like something natural to take great effort to
ensure memories of your roots stay intact. But if you look at it objectively, you can see that the very
reason you emigrated are various flaws and weaknesses of your homeland. The new place you have
chosen is undisputedly better, and the causes of this can be very complicated and reach extremely
deep into many subjects. Accordingly, the most viable choice is to completely break contact with
your previous, imperfect culture, and start a new life from scratch, thus eliminating any negative
factors that could affect you otherwise. All in all, it is success that you desire.
As shown, there are many aspects of being an immigrant that can have a negative impact on your
life, which outstandingly remain unnoticed by the majority of them. Fortunately, it can be averted if
you are devoted to your case, and not afraid of substantial changes. You need to become a true,
unassailable citizen of your dream land.
