Pg. 635 & 636 #4 factoring

Pg 637 #82 quadratic equation
#4
In order to solve the problem:

by factoring you first must change the

quadratic formula to equal zero. Next, subtract 15 from each side.

The next step is to expand the equation to get the factors. To do this you ask yourself
what numbers can be multiplied to get -15 and that can be subtracted from each other to equal -2.

#82
In order to solve this non-linear equation, we need to apply the following quadratic formula:

In our example, x is equal to v, A is equal to 3, B is equal to 4 and C is equal to 1.

( )

To factor, the number of times that each prime number goes into the original integer becomes the
exponent. We also need to get rid of the parenthesis, and that will change the signs.
(

Next we need to exponentiate the power using the formula (AB)C = ABC.

Now multiply.

Evaluate the power.

Now add the terms.

Now we have to find the primes of 28, which are 2 (twice) and 7 (once).

Now you must distribute the radical sign over each factor.

To simplify we can remove the Greatest Common Factor, which is 2, which would remove the
radical sign.

Now you reduce the fractions to the lowest terms.

Now you must rearrange the numbers to put the -4 last. Then find the prime of 4, which is 2
(twice).

Next factor the Greatest Common Factor.

(

You now need to reduce the fraction to the lowest terms.
