Best Youth Travlers
By Vince Albrecht
Hackensack, NJ – Thirteen-year-old Jake Rollins led Stan
Niemiec’s Youth Travel players, pounding out 248-659 as
Fair Lawn II tightened their hold on third place with a con-
vincing three-game sweep of Montvale II at Bowler City.
He had plenty of help from teammates’ Chris Marco-Hunt
212-584, Shaun Cairns 199,191 and Maggie Schultz,
whose above mark threesome factored into the quartet’s
strong 992-2860 effort. Seemingly impervious to their tor-
rid opponents, Montvale managed some fine scores as
well: Brian O’Flaherty 202, Matt Hauser 190,212 and
Bryan Kist 603 with closing games of 208,214.
Fourteen-year-old Will Blanco blitzed the pins with 194-
213-244 for 651, powering Bowler City to an impressive
whitewash of Holiday Bowl II. Stacy Fernandez added
187,211 while ten-year-old lefty David Grant and thirteen-
year-old Ryan Perez contributed three above average
games each. Leading Holiday Bowl was touted DePaul
sophomore Colette Malyack 198,191 with younger brother
Joseph putting together two huge over norm scores of 166
and 173.
Rounding out the day’s action, Montvale I’s Brian
Galbraith finished with 602, closing with 245, the session’s
second best single; Cassidy Fiore chipped in with 211 and
Greg Khan an over average 160, but it wasn’t enough to
prevent the team from dropping three games to Holiday
Bowl I. The latter was sparked by Rob Andresen 200,235-
626, Ryan Kattine 214,212-612, Kevin Macchia 212 and a
reliable threesome from Brian Rizzi in capturing the close-
ly contested match. Meanwhile, league-leading Fair Lawn
I struggled but was able to take two points from the vacan-
cy thanks mainly to Deandre Lightly’s 211.
