This procedure is intended to provide additional guidance for the testing of fixings away from

laboratory conditions such that the users of the results can be confident that the fixings
performance has been properly assessed.

This procedure covers the requirements for applying Proof Loads.

This procedure covers Proof load Tests and may be applied to the Fischer chemical anchor.

The purpose of site tests may be either:

a. To establish the suitability of a fixing and/or admissible loads in a particular base material.
b. To validate installation
To validate the adequacy of the installation of fixings then PROOF LOAD tests should be
carried out.
The level of Proof Load should be decided by the engineer responsible for the fixing
specification.

The position of fixings for Proof Loads will already be set. In both cases the dimensional
requirements of the test apparatus must be taken into account.

Tester set-up would be representative of the loads acting on the anchor. In window applications,
horizontal forces would act on the primary brackets or steel angle bars before transferring the loads
to the anchors. Certain degree of eccentricity is also noted and applied on the test set-up. If forces
on the anchor are already calculated by the manufacturer, shear and tensile loads can be applied
directly on the anchor using rigs without any eccentricity in consideration to avoid magnification of
the loads.

Set-up of the test apparatus is listed below:
1. Fit the appropriate button to the fastener to be tested.
2. Slide the slot in the bolt tester adaptor over the button adaptor until the fastener axis and bolt
tester axis are in alignment.
3. Make final adjustments so that the bolt tester adaptor, tester and fixing are aligned.
4. Position the tester so that the gauge can be easily read.
5. Set the red pointer on the gauge to zero hold the tester by the grip handle and proceed to
load the fastener by turning the operating handle clockwise.
Caution
Hold the tester securely by the grip handle as long as the fastener is under load. When the load
increases, note the reading on the displacement scale on the tester. Indication of failure of the
failure of the fastener may be obtained by comparing the current reading with the original reading.
6. Increase the load until the required test load is attained. Hold this load and observe any falling
back of the gauge pointer which would indicate movement and possible failure of the fastener.
Record the satisfactory result.
7. Release the load on the fastener by turning the operating handle anti-clockwise and allowing
the test jaw to return to the original position.
8. Remove the tester and bolt tester adaptor.

SAFETY. It is the responsibility of all parties involved to take particular care to ensure the safety of all
bystanders during the application of loads especially when testing to failure. When using pulling rods
in tension ensure no one stands in line with the rod.
WITNESSES. It is strongly recommended that all tests are tests are witnessed by a representative of
the client or engineer requesting the tests.
Proof Load Tests with no recording of movement Apply the load slowly and progressively until the
required Proof Load is reached watching for significant movement. Record the load achieved and
whether or not significant visible movement has occurred. If significant movement does occur
reference should be made to the client as to the desirability of testing with detailed recording of
movement.
Load for Fischer chemical anchor m12x160 using FIS EM 390 = 13.8 kN/ FIS VS 360S = 12.3 kN

The number of tests required should be decided by the engineer requesting the tests; however, the
following guide-lines may be used.
For Proof Load Tests: test a minimum of 2.5% of the total number of fixing or at least 3.

Testing of the anchor should meet the proof load that will be applied for it to pass the proof
load testing. Anchors should be free of defects before using it for testing; also the substrate should
be checked for cracks or other defects. There are modes of failure that anchor will be subjected to
when the applied load had reached the maximum capacity of the anchor. It includes: a. pull-out and
pull-through failure; b. concrete cone failure; c. edge failure; d. splitting failure; e. steel material
failure. In proof loading, it is required to limit the load to be applied to the design load or permanent
damage to the fixing assembly will occur. If the anchor does not experienced any of the above
mentioned modes of failure, it is safe to conclude that the anchor passed the test criteria.

On-site condition is different in design condition whereas we are having some tolerances
with regards in installation of anchor on site. Below is the following tolerances we recommend on
some site problems

Hitting of Reinforcement From the previous drilled hole that encounters a rebar, move two drill
diameters from the center of the drilled hole. Fill the previous hole with mortar or grout. Inclination
of Anchor Recommended inclination of anchor is 5 degrees from the axis that is perpendicular to
the substrate.
Effective Embedment depth not achieved Based on approval minimum anchorage depth of anchor
is 4d or minimum of 40 mm whichever is higher.
