From September 2014 we have also employed a member of staff as a lunchtime sport coach
and to assist with all sporting activities. He assists Sports (UK) Ltd with the PE lessons and
the afterschool clubs and also runs other after school clubs to ensure all sports/activities
are covered. He will work with the Sports Co-ordinator to enable school to attend
tournaments and will also run the training session for Little Strikers, which offers children
from 1 - 6 years a safe and nurturing environment which encourages all aspects of mental and
physical development through football. This uses specially designed equipment for children
with parental participation to develop key skills. This equipment was bought with money
received from a Lottery Grant.
Impact
Physical education contributes directly to development of physical competence and fitness. It
also helps pupils to make informed choices and understand the value of leading a physically
active lifestyle. Good physical education can have a positive impact on both academic learning
and physical activity patterns of pupils. It is believed that the healthy, physically active pupil
is more likely to be academically motivated, alert and successful.
Through the government sports grant, at Fagley we are able to provide the following for our
children:
Additional after school sports provided by sports UK for a variety of year groups.
Every year group had the chance to participate in a sporting festival against other
schools and received additional specialist teaching in preparation for the festivals.
Through membership to the LAP and Hanson schools sports, the children have access
to much broader opportunity for competition.
The uptake in extra curricular sporting activities has increased and all clubs run at full
capacity. These clubs include:
Football
Gymnastics
Dodgeball
Street dance
Cheerleading
Athletics
Netball
Tag rugby
Hockey
Cricket
Multi skills
Karate
Handball
The enthusiasm for competition has certainly increased and school are now in a
position to make team selections from a number of keen participants.
Teachers have reported that children are now fully engaged in PE lessons and
enthusiastic about furthering their knowledge.
