JACKSON A series of brush fires and a blaze in a
barn at Six Flags Great Adventure from which two animals escaped unharmed on Monday are under investigation by township police.
Five fires appear to have been intentionally ignited
Monday in piles of leaves and brush at curbs and yards
in residential areas, police said. Later that night, as
crews were responding to a barn fire at Great Adventure, a news helicopter reported several small fires

MIDDLETOWN Sammy, the cocker spaniel that galvanized thousands in the fight against animal abuse after he was left near death in a garbage bag last year,
died Monday at his new home here.
Samurai, better known as Sammy, died peacefully in
his home after suffering a stroke that made it difficult
for him to walk and eat, according to the animals Facebook page.
Sammys new, adoptive owner held the dog in his
arms when he died, the Facebook page said.
