INTRODUCTION TO HISTORY OF WESTERN MUSIC

Teacher explains the activity and the three parts of it:


1. Introductory video with fast selection of information.
7 minutes of video and time to share information in small groups.
2. Extraxt information fron a powerpoint.
3. Link the information copied in the notebook an actual conference about
music and emotion
4. Present the chart individually and a oral presentation
FIRST CLASS. Enabling.
Lecciones ilustradas .Artistic video with fast selection of information.
Individually the students copy the main information from the youtube
video of Lecciones ilustradas: Historia de la msica .
The teacher pass the video two times and never stops it.
7 minutes of video and time to share information in small groups.
The students share the information in groups of five discussing about the
importance of the dates.
SECOND CLASS . Developing
Introduction to western music power point.
Power point presentation: intro to music history.ppt
The students copy information from the power point guided by teacher in the
selection of words, sentences and the meaning.
2nd class Optional. Listening of examples from different periods
If its necessary the teacher would use another extra session.THIRD CLASS. Developing
Viewing Music and emotion
During this session the sudents have to pay attention to the Conference about
Music an emotion with subtitles taking fast notes related to the information about
how, what, instinct and intelligence (see video)and the periods and musical
pieces and composers named by the speaker.
Discussion in small groups
After the viewing the students work in small groups of six discussing about their
notes. Every group, leaded by a student-conductor, have to organize and link the
information about each period including the powerpoint information, the Michael
Tilson speech and some extra dates from Lecciones ilustradas.
FOURTH CLASS Evaluation

Presentation and complete the chart.


At the end the conductor of each group have to present (in oral way) a timeline
with the selected information. Time for the presentation: 10 minutes maximun
Individual every student complete the chart without notebook or other support.
4th class Optional: The groups can prepare a longer presentation
including audio or video material for an extra mark

2 The students will watch a power point about general information of the
evolution of the music. They will copy information individually.
The teacher will guide the selection of contents and will help the students about
their doubts.
