Resource Management
Maximize the Return from your People
CA Clarity PPM is designed to bring you optimal results from your most valuable assetyour people. In
order to speed time-to-execution for the work you do, you must quickly find the right resources to solve
complex problems. You have to staff your projects and programs with the right people, working on the
right tasks at the right time to ensure that you deliver value to your stakeholders.
Deploying the right resources to the right projects focused on driving growth of any organization is key to
your success. CA Clarity PPM enables you to manage the entire spectrum of resource requisitioning with
four major resource components:
Resource Finder: Quickly search for and select resources
Resource Capacity Planning: Gain portfolio insight of overall demand vs. capacity
Resource Requisitioning: Enable an efficient supply and demand process
Skills Management: Realize the full potential of resources
25
Resource Finder enhances the staffing process by allowing you to quickly search for and select resources, then
drill down to specific information about each person, including skills, current resource allocations and
individual calendars. You can also view graphical displays that identify under- and over-utilized staff, making
it easy to find available, qualified people across your entire global organization. Once a project is created in CA
Clarity PPM, project managers can schedule project plans based on available resources rather than on task
duration, providing a more realistic plan in less time. Project managers can also assign non-project team
members directly to tasks for more detailed planning and visibility of resource assignments.
Balance Your Resource Capacity and Project Demand
The Resource Capacity Planning feature in CA Clarity PPM gives you insight into your organizations
portfolio, showing you how overall work (demand) compares with overall resource availability (capacity).
You can view aggregated summaries by organizational breakdown structure (OBS) hierarchies such as
geography, departments, project type and resource roles. Strategic planners can conduct what-if analyses
on projects by changing project attributes to simulate different project scenarios. For example, you can
exclude lower priority projects that are not yet approved or shift project dates and resource allocations, to
see how demand requirements change. Maximizing your resources through capacity planning reduces your
costs while delivering successful programs.
Manage Resource Requests and Staffing
Resource Requisitioning allows you to efficiently gather the resources you need, both from the demand
side and the supply side of the requisition process. It provides you with an efficient and orderly
mechanism for communicating your resource requirements to resource managers. In addition, it provides
resource managers with the tools they need to quickly request, locate, and deploy the appropriate
resources with the right skills from both internal and external sources and communicate with you during
the entire process.
Identify and Track Key Skills and Experience
With continual employee training and development, and employee turnover, your company must confront
the challenge of tracking, categorizing and organizing employee skills. The
Skills Management tool lets you quickly identify the optimal resources available for each project. CA
Clarity brings you a method for understanding the skill sets of individuals, allowing you to track their
development, experience and interest levels.
Whether your organization uses a formal or informal requisition process to staff projects and other
activities, CA Clarity PPM gives you the flexibility you need to work the way you want and get the most
value out of your resources.

41
42
Benefits
Firewall security
Inspection firewalls are in place that stop all incoming traffic, analyze it, and prevent standard internet attacks. Application
servers are located in a demilitarized zone (DMZ), which is separated from the service database servers by a firewall. Only the
necessary ports are opened between the DMZ and the internal trusted network.
Encryption
All web traffic is protected by 256 bit SSL encryption and 2048 bit RSA public keys. The CA Clarity PPM application is set up to run under SSL
to encrypt all user sessions.
Authentication
CA Clarity On Demand customers may utilize a standard user name/password authentication scheme. Optionally, a federated
single sign-on (SSO) authentication is available for customers with the capability of producing SAML authentication packages.
Federated SSO allows for greater customer control for access methods and timing.
Authorization
Over 150 individual rights, roles, or groups can be used to secure application functionality and data records. Additionally,
standard audit trail functionality can be configured for most objects and attributes to capture creation, edits, and deletions of
selected data records or attributes.
Data integrity
CA Clarity On Demand customers are deployed in a stateless application environment connected to Oracle database instances.
With failover at the application tier, the application data model is designed to guarantee data integrity by modeling data
transactions into transaction units that are saved (committed) to the database in one batch. In the event a database instance
goes offline, the pending transactions resume once the database is restored.
Data segregation
Permissions
Additional application security is provided through permissions based on roles and organizational breakdown structures.
Using these permission schemes, the CA Clarity PPM application can be configured to allow or deny access to features and
data in accordance with any business need. CA Technologies also implements best practices in guarding from outside
threats. Each customers data and configurations are stored in a dedicated database schema with security rights restricted
at the database level.
SSAE 16 auditing
The CA Clarity On Demand service is subject to an annual SSAE 16 compliance audit. The resulting Service Organization
Controls (SOC) Report includes the auditor's opinion on the fairness of the presentation of the CA Technologies description of
controls that have been placed in operation and the suitability of the design of the controls to achieve the specified control
objectives, and the auditor's opinion on whether the specific controls were operating effectively during the period under
review. Statement on Standards for Attestation Engagements (SSAE) No. 16, Reporting on Controls at a Service Organization,
was finalized by the Auditing Standards Board of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) in January
2010. SSAE 16 effectively replaces SAS 70 as the authoritative guidance for reporting on service organizations.
CA Technologies data centers have multiple levels of security to protect customer information. This protection includes
physical and logical security measures. All data centers have highly restricted access and use physical security measures. All
areas of each data center are monitored using CCTV, and all access points are controlled. The center is staffed with security
officers around the clock and any entry is scrutinized. CA Technologies also maintains a department of security engineers with
new security employees and contractors subjected to background checks.
