a ferry trip on the lvsnabben harbour ferry.
Gteborg is a beautiful city all year round. The guide below
will give you a taste of whats best on land and at sea.
A Gteborg City Card, which includes tram and ferry rides
and much more, is well worth having with you!
YOUR TOUR BEGINS AT:
1. KUNGSPORTSPLATSEN SQUARE.

4. KLIPPAN, WHERE YOU GET OFF.

6. MARKLANDSGATAN.

Take tram no. 3 (towards Marklandsgatan). Go 5 stops


to Jrntorget. Go towards the harbour (follow the signs)
where you will find the Rosenlund ferry stop.

Take a while to stroll around the cultural reserve. Youll


find the ruins of the old lvsborg Fortress behind the hotel. The areas heyday was the 18th century, when the East
India Company had a warehouse and loading quay here.
Several buildings remain, including the Ankarsmedjan
anchor smiths. In the late 1700s a glassworks and sugar
mill were built, which later became part of the Carnegie
brewery. The area became a separate little community
with a church, school, housing and hospital, etc.
These days the brewery is a hotel. In the park, follow the
path under the main road up towards lvsborgsgatan to
the tram stop called:

and change to tram no. 2 (Kroksltt). Youll go past


Slottsskogsvallen, where Gunder Hgg and Arne Andersson fought many duels and where todays athletes now
meet annually. A bit further on are the Botanical Gardens
on the right, founded in the early 1900s aided by a donation from Charles Lindbergh. To the left are the expansive
Slottsskogen city park including a seal pond, bird house,
the Childrens Zoo, the Natural History Museum and
Observatory. The tram goes past Linnplatsen and the
School of Economics and Commercial Law, then its time
to change trams at

2. ROSENLUND, BY THE GTA RIVER (GTA LV).


Take the lvsnabben harbour ferry. NB! There are two
different ferries with similar names. The ferry trip will
take you to two former shipyards which are now offices
and schools. One of the ferry stops is called Eriksberg
the area is called:

3. NORRA LVSTRANDEN.
The East Indiaman Gtheborg III, a replica of an 18th
century ship, was built here at the shipyard Terra Nova.
She came back to Gteborg from her maiden trip to
China, in the summer of 2007. Today the Eriksberg area,
one of the former biggest shipyards in Gteborg, contains housing, hotels, concert and exhibition halls and
restaurants. Get back on the ferry. On the starboard side
youll see Nya Varvet,`the new shipyard, and a view of the
beautiful archipelago. The lsnabben last stop is:

5. VAGNHALLEN MAJORNA.
Take the no. 3 towards Marklandsgatan. The areas you
travel through still contain many of the old County
Governorshouses. This type of house began being
built after the great fires of the 18th and 19th centuries.
The ground floor is made of stone, with max. and two
additional floors made of wood above it. Get off at the

7.VASA/VIKTORIAGATAN.
Change to tram no. 3 towards Klltorp. Vasaplatsen square
soon appears on the left, with the Obelisk in
memory of newspaperman Torgny Segerstedt.
The monumental building of Gteborg University stands
opposite the park. A little further down Vasagatan on the
right is the Rhsska Museum of Design and Decorative
Arts, Swedens only design and craft museum. The tram
now turns onto the main street, Kungsportsavenyn,
known as Avenyn (`the Avenue), and a bit later youre
back at Kungsportsplatsen again.

The tour should take around 1.5 2 hours. Actual travel and walking time is approx. 1.25 hours.
