This part of IEC 60079 specifies the general requirements for construction,
testing and
marking of electrical apparatus and Ex components intended for use in
explosive gas
atmospheres.

Establish a procedure to identify the emergency shutdown systems and safety

critical controls that are keyto maintaining safety in the process industries as
defined in the Mechanical Integrity and Maintenance
sections of Process Safety Management (PSM) regulations such as Occupational
Safety and Health
Administration (OSHA) Federal Regulation 29 CFR 1910.119 (reference 5.1), and
Risk Management
Program (RMP) regulations such as U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
Regulation 40 CFR Part 68
(reference 5.2).
This guideline is developed to assist engineering, operations, and maintenance
personnel with
establishing the classification of their instrumentation, thus facilitating all
aspects of designing and
maintaining reliable operating facility instrumentation. Global instrumentation
manufacturers classify their
equipment according to various country classification standards
Contains requirements for preventing or minimizing the consequences of
catastrophic releases of toxic, reactive, flammable, or explosive chemicals.
These releases may result in toxic, fire or explosion hazards.

This standard is intended to meet the different procedures of various users who
need to identify
and graphically depict measurement and control equipment and systems. These
differences are
recognized when they are consistent with the objectives of this standard, by
providing alternative symbol
and identification methods.
The purpose of this Standard is to provide a method of logic diagramming of
binary interlock
and sequencing systems for the startup, operation, alarm, and shutdown of
equipment and processes
in the chemical, petroleum, power generation, air conditioning, metal refining,
and numerous
other industries.
The purpose of this standard is to establish documentation for that class of
instrumentation
consisting of computers, programmable controllers, minicomputers and microprocessor based
systems that have shared control, shared display or other interface features.
Symbols are
provided for interfacing field instrumentation, control room instrumentation
and other hardware to
the above. Terminology is defined in the broadest generic form to describe the
various
categories of these devices.
This standard establishes minimum required
information and identifies additional optional information for a loop diagram for
an individual instrumentation
loop. This loop is typically part of a process depicted on the class of engineering
drawings
referred to as Piping and Instrument Drawings (P&IDs).
The purpose of this standard is to establish a system of graphic symbols for
process displays that
are used by plant operators, engineers, etc., for process monitoring and control.
The system is
intended to facilitate rapid comprehension by the users of the information that
is conveyed
through displays, and to establish uniformity of practice throughout the process
industries.
The need for documentation to help define control software prior to hardware
selection, especially for batch
sequence logic, was identified due to its complexity
