6. GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE WORK

6.1. This work covers the procurement of labor, tools, materials, equipment and
supervision for the Cleaning of Transformers Oil Catch Basins / Oil Retention Pits at
Various Sec / National Grid Substations in Al-Hasa Area (AMD-H), Jubail Area
(AMD-J) and Dammam Area (AMD-D).

7. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE WORK

7.1

Contractor shall use an industrial high vacuum equipment for the removal
of gravels and sand on all transformers oil catch basins.

7.2

Contractor shall submit the technical specifications for the proposed industrial
high vacuum equipment to the Company for review and approval.

7.3

The Contractor, prior to the start of Work, shall perform and demonstrate an
actual removal of gravels and sand on one oil catch basin using his industrial
high vacuum equipment to the satisfaction of the Company Representative.

7.4

Contractor shall remove all gravels above the wire mesh / metallic gratings
using high industrial vacuum equipment. The removed gravels shall be placed
in a steel moveable pit in the substation yard as directed by the Company
representative

7.5

Contractor shall remove the wire mesh and metallic gratings to access the
bottom or flooring of the oil catch basin.

7.6

Contractor shall Clean the oil catch basin

equipment.

7.7

Contractor shall replace gravels with new one as instructed by the Company
representative. The gravel shall be clean non-dusting, hard and shall comply
to SEC Standard.

7.8

Contractor shall return back the metallic gratings above the oil catch basin.

7.9

Contractor shall re-install the wire mesh above the metallic gratings. Replace
the wire mesh if found damaged. Wire mesh material specification shall be
approved by the Company representative.

7.10

Contractor shall spread manually the washed gravels above the steel mesh.
Use appropriate non-conductive tools in spreading the gravels evenly.
Extreme care shall be taken when performing this procedure. Keep away from
transformers radiators and fans.

7.11

Contractor shall clean/flush and Inter-connect pipes towards the sump.

7.12

Contractor shall test the operation of sump pump by filling the oil catch basin
with water from a water tanker provided by the Contractor. Defective
pump(s) and controls shall be replaced by the Contractor as provided by the
Company representative

7.13

Contractor shall Clean the surroundings area of transformers free from sand
and debris.
