GE 10: GENERAL SURVEYING 1

Course Description:
Use of principal surveying instruments; surveying measurements and error theory, basic plane surveying operations and
computational method of position, horizontal and vertical distance measurements, traverse and areas; basic cartography

Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the student should have learned to:
1. Understand the principles and usage of typical surveying instruments
2. Familiarize and learn field procedures employed in plane surveying
3. Identify errors associated with common field operations and adjust field data accordingly
4. Carry out proper fieldwork procedures and mathematical computations in conducting horizontal and vertical
distance measurements
5. Perform field computations of traverse, area and simple subdivision problems
6. Prepare and conduct correct survey plans
7. Have a basic knowledge in cartography

THIRD LONG EXAM

Class Policies:
1. Pursuant to University rules, attendance will be checked every meeting. Students who exceed more than 6 absences will be automatically
given a grade of 5. Students who accumulate 5 absences will be notified immediately to avoid failing marks due to absences. Three
(3) late marks will correspond to an absent. You will be considered late 15 minutes after the classes started.
2. Three (3) long exams will be given. Please take note of the schedule in the course outline. Any deviation from the schedule will be
announced immediately. No special exam will be given for whatever reason. A missed exam will automatically correspond to a grade
of zero.
3. Complaints regarding exam scores will only be entertained 1 week after the release of results.
4. Unless announced, no extensions will be given for submission of fieldwork reports and deliverables. Late submission will penalized
with 10% deduction per day late.
5. Follow strictly the schedule of your fieldworks so as not to have conflicts in instrument use with other classes. Make sure that you
understand the Lab Instrument Rules and Regulations.
6. There will be three (3) long exams. This shall be held during class hours and no special exam will be given for whatever reason. A
student who missed one long exam is obliged to take the final exam. The student must have a valid reason so that 80% of the final exam
grade may be credited to the missed exam is obliged to take the final exam. A student who missed more than one exam shall automatically
get a grade of 5 if the subject is not DROPPED.
7. A student may be exempted to take the final examination (but may opt to take) provided that each his/her long exams is greater than
60% with an average of 70% or higher and all fieldworks and deliverables are submitted on or before the last day of class. If the student
is exempted from the final exam, his/her final grade is equal to his/her pre-final grade.
8. No grade of 4.00 will be given.
9. The grade of the students will be computed as follows:
Pre-final Grade:
