Overview
The single site function verification test is a part of the WCDMA network optimization
to ensure that the basic functions of the cells of a cluster, such as call access, call
communication, handover and so on, are normal before each is separately optimized.
The equipment function acceptance test can tell what proportion of the call drops,
access failures and the like problems are caused by poor coverage and what are
caused by equipment faults, helping us to better locate the problems to solve by
optimization for higher network optimization efficiency.
Figure 1.1is the network optimization flow. As the figure shows, the single site
function verification is performed at the stage prior to the cell-based optimization and
after the Cluster partitioning and team construction in the network optimization flow.
The single site function verification is the cell-based equipment function acceptance
test to verify if the equipment of each cell is sound.
Through the single site function verification, the following functions for each cell shall
be checked as normal:
In the following text, the preparation work of single site function verification is first
described (Section 2), and then, the single site function verification method and
process (Section 3). Finally, the relevant data tables and check list used for the
function verification test are presented (appendixes).
to configure the same scrambling code. Scrambling code checking may be carried out
via LMT.
Coverage check. Through checking the CPICH RSCP and CPICH Ec/Io, the cell
coverage status shall be realized, the downlink transmission power and the extra
downlink interference shall be checked.
Scrambling code check. Through comparing the scrambling code from site
verification test and from planning in a special place, the crossed feeders shall
be found out.
Routine test for voice service, VP service, PS service to ensure the service
functions at the control plane and the user plane of the CS/PS domain of all cells
are normal.
Conduct a simple drive test to check if the handover function is normal.
For single site function verification, following tools and software shall be needed.
Drive test tools and scanner, used for collection the pilot signal data. Agilent
E6455C is the drive test scanner now.
Test UE, used for service verification and system message collection. The
Qualcomm 6200 mobile is used for voice and PS service test. Since the
Qualcomm mobile could not support the VP service, Motorola A830 mobile or
Siemens U15 mobile is used for the VP service test.
Data collection software, used to display and log the signal strength, UE status,
signal message and so on in time. Agilent E6474A is being used now.
Data analyzing software, used to resolve message, analysis signal, solve
problem and so on. Actix Analyzer and DataAssistant is being used now.
The single site function verification is often carried out on per-NodeB basis. According
to the experiences of the CDMA optimization, the function verification of one site
usually takes about two to four hours. So we could choose part of sites (10% to 15%
sites) for testing if the time is limited. The network optimization engineer shall be the
principal body for the work. They should cooperate with the product support engineer
for the troubleshooting of the equipment.
1.
Arrive the test point of sector 1.
2.
Power on the Qualcomm mobile, the WCP indication will show on the mobile
screen if the mobile setup process is complete. It means the LA update procedure is
OK, the RA update procedure is OK, the PS attach is OK. (If the WC is shown on the
mobile, it means the LA update is OK. If the P is shown on the mobile, it means the
RA update and the PS attach is OK. )
3.
Choose Menu -> 5 -> 9 -> 2 on Qualcomm mobile, PS detach is OK.
4.
Run the Agilent E6474A software, start data logging. Observe the Qualcomm
mobile logging data from Agilent software: Observe cell frequency and scrambling
code from UMTS CPICH View window, as shown in figure 2; Observe CPICH RSCP
and Ec/Io, as shown in figure 3. (Notes: The CPICH RSCP and Ec/Io shall be got
from scanner or Qualcomm mobile. The difference between the scanner and
Qualcomm mobile is the antenna of scanner is out-car but the antenna of Qualcomm
mobile is in-car. Commend to use the Qualcomm mobile to check the CPICH RSCP
and CPICH Ec/Io. When we use the Qualcomm mobile to check the CPICH RSCP
and CPICH Ec/Io, the Io and Ec/Io can be obtained, the CPICH RSCP shall be
obtained through calculation: Ec = Ec/Io + Io.)
1.
Make the dialing test of 3G speech service, which includes mobile terminating
call and mobile originating call. Each dialing test should be tried five times and kept at
least 10 seconds for each time. Test the speech communication quality by your feel.
2.
Make the dialing test of 3G VP service, which includes mobile terminating call
and mobile originating call. Each dialing test should be tried five times and kept at
least 10 seconds for each time. Test the speech and photo communication quality by
your feel.
3.
Make the dialing test of 3G PS service, which includes WWW browsing and file
downloading. Each dialing test should be tried five times and browsed at least one
web page for each time. Test the PS connection quality by your feel.
4.
(Optional) Diversity receiver check, the method shall be found in the following
chapters.
5.
Take a speech service or VP service or PS service call and keep it. Verify the
soft handover along the test route (from the test point of being tested sector to
another sector). During the process, observe the CPICH scrambling code changing
from Agilent UMTS CPICH View, and observe the active set update message from
UMTS Protocol Messages View ( see figure 5 ).
8
Notes: Since the Agilent UMTS Active Set View is updated very slowly, we suggest
that it is no use to observe the handover form the UMTS Active Set View.
1.
Terminate the call conversation, stop the file logging, power off the Qualcomm
mobile and exit the Agilent E6474A software.
2.
Repeat the steps 2 to 9 in another new sector.
3.
After all the drive test has been finished, check the system information
parameters by background analysis software ANALYZER. The checked parameters
are included: the cell selection and reselection parameters in SIB3, LAC/RAC in SIB1,
neighbor cells in SIB11. The configured parameters shall be found in Project WCDMA
RNP Radio Parameter Configuration List.
Optional check items: Cell reselection between 2G and 3G, voice handover from 3G
to 2G.
Notes: If the cell reselection between 2G and 3G or the voice handover from 3G to
2G need to be verified, the test place shall be confirmed by operator.
3.3 Troubleshooting
The problems found in the function verification drive test include: call failure of the
calling or called party, call drop, the quality of conversation, handover failure. If any
problem happened, the test should be made again to make sure if they are
repeatable. The problem recording list should be filled in and the product support
engineer should be encouraged to solve the problems. RNO engineer should track
the problems until they are solved.

2.
3.
11
If the receiving feeders crossed, the uplink diversity receive gain is lost, and the uplink
interfere is doubled. It will affect the uplink capability. And this problem is hard to be
checked out by general downlink pilot test. So the DRX check is necessary in the
single site verification test.
12
Switch the transmitter of verified cell from one feeder to another, check the CPICH
RSCP changed or not. If no change happened, it means that there is no crossed-DRX
problem.
