To Install 2M cables in rack

Rack description
The general rack is S9. 1662 sub-rack could be installed into this 21rack with 19-21adapters.
Commonly to install sub-rack into S9 is difficulty. So here we offer same advice to install 2M
cables in S9 rack.
S9 rack is 2.2 meter in height. Only tow sub-rack could be installed into it. Here we define the
bottom one is NO1, the other is NO2. Think about 10mm cable, the most curl radius is 50mm
which is the limited of cablesrooting.

Rooting description
Think about the max configuration is four 2M boards in each side. And each board with 9 pairs of
cables. That means all 144 cables in one sub-rack.

Step one
To install NO1 sub-rack, the best distance from bottom of sub-rack to top of S9 rack is 1620mm.
This distance is limited by cables physical properties. Though position of sub-rack is
adjustable, the distance is recommend.
When cables go out from the 2M board, arrange them by plastic ties. And move them to the backside of the rack. Pack the cables line by line as follow picture which is top view of the section
to describe the position of cables and sub-rack

.
The cables should be arrange closely for saving space. For each side 72 cables should be arranged by 6*12.

ED

01
3AL 98104 ABAA

25/93

When cables come to top of rack, arrange them though the holes of rack in each side. Each hole in top
of rack can contain 144 cables as the follow picture. For saving space, the cables of NO1 should be
arranged closely to the back-side of the rack.

ED

01
3AL 98104 ABAA

26/93

Step two
For installing NO2 sub-rack, the best distance between sub-rack
s bottom side to the rack
s top side is
720mm.
For each side, cables from board should be rooted directly to top of rackhole except the fist board. Cables
of first board should be arrange into the area same as NO1
s cables. Follow Picture show the position.

The others should be go though the hole of rack directly.

ED

01
3AL 98104 ABAA

27/93

Not
1) To arrange cables along the offset between sub-rack and rack with the help of cable holder as follow
picture

2) The position of the two sub-rack installed in S9 rack should be shown as follow picture.

SM TO MM fiber connections

The optical connections described in paragraph 2.2.4.2 and 2.2.4.3 on are added with a
patch cord (see Figure 21) to mate the STM-1 output of the Single Mode optical module with the
Multi-mode fiber connecting the ODF.

Figure 27. Patch cord SM TO MM

The length of the patch cord is standard set. The patch cords can be connected to modules inserted both in
the Traffic unit part and in the Access unit.
The joint between the patch cord and the multi-mode fiber leading out from the ODF may be placed in a
different position either inside the horizontal duct of the subrack or inside the vertical duct of the rack.
The junction is achieved through a socket and the typical route is shown in Figure 21.
The connection points on the STM -1 module correspond to the Tx connector.

Mounting ETHERNET ports on equipment installed for the first time with subracks
equipped with the new duct

In this case, the fiber support is already mounted and cannot be extracted. Therefore the new sequence of
operations to follow is stated below:
- Place the Ethernet ports into the specific slots.
- Remove jags from the bottom of the duct next to the Ethernet units inserted.
- Insert the Ethernet cables before any other optical/electrical ports equipping the subrack. This
operations calls for particular attention especially if having to install pre-connectorized cables.
The cables must be lead in from the back of the duct which they must cross before reaching
the unit front panel connectors.
- Place the supports next to the fibers incoming from the other optical ports provided on the
equipment as shown on the new template to affix to the fiber support.
- Connect the fibers.

4. MECHANICAL INSTALLATION
Follow chapter describ how to install fan shelf into rack, and how to install fan drawers into shelf with
cables. Recoments include description of rack, fan shelf and drawer, cables and etc.

4.1.

Rack description

There are general racks S9 and N3 in used. Both of them are 21rack. Fan shelf could be install into
them with 19-21adapters which ALCATEL code is 3AL 80372 AAAA. Also it could be installed into 19
rack.

4.2.

Fan shelf installation

Fan shelf can be used to 1650 1660 and 1662. And the installation are same for each sub-rack. Here as
an example, we use 1662 sub-rack to describe the detail.
The installation of 1650 1660 and 1662 sub-rack could be found in their installation hand book. So here
we suppose these sub-racks are already installed. As the follow picture, there
s a 1662 SMC sub-rack in
rack.

4.3.

Install shelf Step One

Open the adapter kit 3AL 80372 AAAA in package, and install adapters close to 1662 shelf. It
s
recomend that the first hole below the 1662
s adapter should be select for the minimal distance
between sub-rack and fan shelf. As the follow picture.

Install shelf Step two

Install shelf into the rack with the help of fan
s adapter. Notic that the hole on shelf is adjustable, so
the most easy way is as follow picture. In this picture, the nunber is the approach to adjust and fill in
screws.

4.5.

Install shelf

Step three

After shelf
s installation, fan drawer and filter.
There are three types of drawer which depend on their count of fan. To used them, follow rules show the
relationship. Careful checking as this relationship is strongly recommend before inserting Drawer.

Power Supply connection must be the last to be executed.

FIXING THE UNITS INTO THE SHELF

(caution to avoid equipment damage)
The screw tightening torque for fixing the units (and modules, if any and if fixed by screws) into the subrack
must be:

2.8 kg x cm (0.28 Newton x m) 10 %

(Exceeding this value may result in screw breaking)

Arrange power cables

Though fan could be used in 166X SMC equipment with diffient configuration, the position of it
s
power cables are always same. Picture follows shows this position:

Figure 56 Position of power cables

4.10. Maintenance
We think the best way to resolve problems is to call Alcatel
s service center. But before their answers
may be you can do it by your self in short time if you have read detail follows.
4.10.1. To filter
Long time runing will cause dust block filter. So clear filter on time is very important. There is black
plastic net in filter. Dust could be take off by water. But before its inserting into shelf agin, it
must be insolation completely!
4.10.2.

To fan drawer

To connectors
As picture follows, guide on shelf contains three position. The first and second ones are for fan
drawers and the third is for filter. Generally fan drawer should be inserted into the first one for the
effect of cooling is best.
