Dear Chair Iqbal,

Weve received your draft call for application for the Chevening scholarship
allotted for the Bangsamoro. First of all thank you very much for your support in
promoting it to find the best and the brightest in the Bangsamoro.
I would to share with you some changes to the draft used to promote the
scholarships in Bangsamoro. These changes reflect the fact that this is a global
scheme. While we have exceptionally been able to carve out a special element for
Bangsamoro, we are still obliged to keep to certain norms in the selection
process.
Chevening Scholarships are the UK governments global scholarship programme that
aims to provide equal opportunity for qualified leaders from around the world to study
at world-class universities in the UK. As such, the application process Chevening
scholarship must always be inclusive.
As for the selection of the scholars, a standard operating procedure is applied to every
post around the world. For the 2015 Chevening programme, applications open on 1
August 2014. Applicants will need to fill up an online application form
on www.chevening.org and submit before the deadline on 15 November 2014.
Applications which pass the sifting process are reviewed again by the Chevening
Secretariats Reading Committee and then passed on to the Chevening team at the
British Embassy for shortlisting. From the shortlist, we will identify potential applicants
for interview.
The interview panel is composed of: 1st Secretary & Head of Political & Economic
Section, 2nd Secretary for Bilateral & Strategic Communications, Chevening Officer and a
Chevening Alumna/Alumnus. We also invite our private sector partners to join the panel
to help us select potential scholars (ie For applicants interested to study Health Policy,
we invite a representative from GlaxoSmithKline Philippines Inc.). We will of course be
happy for applicants to come with recommendations from sponsors (a part of the
process). These will obviously be taken in to account should you wish to recommend
some candidates. And you can also be sure that our panel will draw upon the detailed
knowledge of Tom and the Ambassador to ensure we do identify those candidates who
can make the biggest contribution.
Best wishes
Steph Lysaght
