Course Description

Student Learning Objectives/Outcomes
1. Apply the principles of the transformational process to their organization and describe
the relevant steps.
3. Recognize and describe the differences and similarities between manufacturing and
service processes and know the principles of operations management as applied to both
manufacturing and service operations.
All assignments to be uploaded to Blackboard. All weeks begin at midnight on the date shown and end at
midnight on he Sunday following. Individual assignments are due at midnight on the Sunday end of the
week of the assignment. Team assignments are due at midnight on the day prior to the presentation of the
assignment. Team assignments due for submission are the team presening and the team critiquing. Thus
you will have 4 team assignments and 4 individual assignments to do. A discussion question will be posted
to the discussion board prior to course start. It is expected that each student will make at least 4 substatial
comments to this question, at different times. More is accepted. For team presentations and team
critiques, I will select the team member to present at the time of the presentation.

specification. I will have some kind of check of the flour and
collect data for feedback. External factors could be wheat quality
and availability, etc. Components could be milling machine, etc.
Please keep in mind that this process does apply to both
manufacturing and service organizations. (I have omitted some
elaboration but for example wheat quality will determine the quality
of the flour and/or the machine settings to grind as well as the type
of feedback data collection used. Please also note that this
transformation process is a summary of what operations
management is all about. Everything else about operations
management should be somehow related to this process.
Therefore I expect you to spend some time understanding it as
it applies to your organization (the one you selected for the
assignment).
