TECHNOLOGY
Gravitude AS delivers high quality gravimetric services at low cost all over the world and the state-ofthe-art technology is derived from gravity acquisition on the Norwegian continental shelf during
almost two decades by Statoil ASA.
The gravimetric services include acquisition of 4D gravity and pressure data. Our technology is
proven to be very valuable for monitoring water influx and changes of the height level of the seafloor
due to compaction or expansion of gas fields. By measuring changes in gravity caused by
movement of fluids with a density contrast, we are able to detect changes in the fluid-fluid interface
down to about a meter. Moreover, high precision pressure measurements at the seafloor are shown
to provide subsidence and uplift information related to compaction and expansion of the reservoir
with millimeter accuracy.
Today gravimetric services are used with great success from large to relative small sized gas fields
at depths up to several km below the seafloor. The information provided by the technology is used
as support for improved reservoir management and enhanced recovery of the reservoir.

WHY USE GRAVITY AND SUBSIDENCE MONITORING?

Gravity and pressure data provide information about water influx and/or spatial changes of the
reservoir during production and injection
Gravity data gives a direct measure of density changes in the reservoir valuable for seismic
analysis
Gravity data provides information about fluid movements in the reservoir
Pressure and subsidence data can be related to reservoir compaction and expansion
Gravity data can be used for verifying the estimated volume of hydrocarbons in the reservoir
Pressure and gravity data provide information about important model properties such as
compressibility and compartmentalization
Subsidence data is valuable for monitoring the safety of seafloor installations
