Company brief
The company originates in 1914 and since then has
been involved in supply of industrial equipment
worldwide.
VAPTECH headquarters is in Sofia, Bulgaria with an
own manufacturing mechanical workshop and design
department in Pleven.

Small Hydro has various definitions around the world.

By VAPTECH standards a small hydropower plant is a
plant with one or several turbine-generator units where
the unit capacity is not more than 10 MW.

Turnkey
A Turnkey solution is a symbol of complexity and
completeness of the hardware and services within the
scope of supply.

The turnkey or water-to-wire (W2W) or single-sourcesupply solution for a small hydropower plant includes the
complete electromechanical power generating package
of equipment along with related services that start with
guiding consultations in the project start stage and
complete with a total project management throughout
the lifetime of the power plant.

Scope
As a rule, the VAPHYDRO Scope of supply is adapted
to the customer desire. Although we would gladly offer
the in-house designed and in-house manufactured stateof-the-art turbines, inlet valves and automation systems
we strongly recommend the single-source-supply
approach where VAPTECH will supply the complete
electromechanical package:

This results in a solution that is economically optimized

for the maximum and long-term yield for the customer.

Design
Based on our knowledge and experience and
partnerships with leading design houses we are able to
offer optimized turbines for each small hydropower
project. These turbine designs are a result of a fully
parameterized model that goes through digital
development.

REFERENCE PROJECTS

The Boutique approach or also custom- or tailor-made

ensures that the core components and thus the
complete hydropower system are designed to match
exactly the ambient natural and project specifics.

We design in-house the turbine, main inlet valve and we

create the turbine governor software.

Manufacturing
The turbine or the heart of the hydropower plant is
manufactured in our own mechanical workshop. The
production facility is the home of more than 300
employees with a centurial experience in manufacturing
technology, planning and execution for small- and largehydro turbines and valves.

VAPTECH workshop is able to deliver all the processes

from plate development to surface treatment and factory
assembly and testing.
The in-house manufacturing is a guarantee for perfect
control on the most important and critical path
components that finally result in an optimized and
shortest delivery time for the complete scope of supply
of the project.

The successful realization of the complete hydropower

project requires a permanent coordination and timing
between the contractor and its customer on one hand
and between the contractor and its suppliers on the
other hand.
These interactions are facilitated by VAPTECH project
managers who make sure that the project runs smoothly
and keep the customer informed through regular
reporting of the progress.
