Executive Review Committee Report September 24th, 2014

Council overall
- Overall people felt their experience on council has been positive
- People feel there is a community within the DSU as a whole
- There is still room for improvement
- The level of community feeling has fluctuated over the years
- A community within council itself needs to be worked on
Individuals feel

Recommendations
- meetings should be more organized
- need to engage councilors that are not involved
- conversations should be more free flowing and open, less formal to allow for
constructive solutions
- more information needs to be provided to councilors
- information should be more organized and sent out with appropriate notice
- councilors should be more comfortable and familiar with Roberts Rules
- more resources to help councilors to construct motions and reports
- council is very exclusive, projects negative image
- more information should be provided to proxies
- attendance should be taken more seriously
- if individuals are not present, presentations, nominations, and elections
should not take place on their behalf
- background information pertaining to issues should be unbiased, circulated
in advance
- needs to be more discussion, avoid making decisions quickly
- need to improve the sound system
- review system for DSU staff and departments
- express individual goals for council overall
- work collectively on projects
- mechanism for students at large to reach out to council, host consultation
time 30 minutes before each meeting, councilors encouraged to come and

- do not always connect with student body

November will be open for consultations with the ERC
Final report will be given at the December 3rd Council meeting
