Material Recovery Facility at Millennium Business Park

Material recovery facility of 4500m2 with extensive siteworks
(12,000m2) which included truck parking, weighbridge, security kiosk,
fencing, controlled drainage etc. Two storey (1,700m2) administration
building was awarded after original contract had commenced.
Open plan layout in MRF building was changed and additional 5m high
RC walls were introduced to form the required compartments.
Services, particularly electrical were extensive. The scope of works
included co-ordination and day to day management of specialist
processing equipment which was provided and installed by a
European company.

The project consisted of 272 units in 43 separate buildings, including a
Group Home and a Creche, and extensive siteworks on a 16-acre site.
The 43 buildings varied from three and four-bedroom traditional twostorey buildings to four-storey apartment blocks with KalZip roofing.
The late removal of overhead and underground ESB services
necessitated working in an out-of sequence manner. Nevertheless,
the works were handed over in phases in advance of the contract
completion date.

The works consisted of the refurbishment of the existing 5000m

sides of the existing building. Construction was mainly of masonry
walls with in-situ RC elements, high pitch timber truss roofs with

Laboratories, woodwork facilities, and computer rooms were
incorporated into the new areas and the full range of mechanical and
electrical services formed part of the works.

This primary school of 2,800m was built on the grounds of an existing,
and operational, school.
Construction was mainly fair faced masonry walling with RC columns
and beams, precast upper floors, steel roof structure, double-skin
roofing, aluminium windows, and a mixture of monocouche render and
Powerwall external finish. The management and coordination of
mechanical and electrical installations were an integral part of the
process. The external works included connections to foul and SW
drainage on the public road, attenuation tank, piped and ducted
services, and hard and soft landscaping.

McKee Barracks Gymnasium.

This new Gymnasium and Sportshall was built within the military
complex. The steel frame main structure has face brick cavity-walls on
all sides, with Kingspan composite roof panels, featured MR panels,
aluminium curtain walling.
Mechanical and electrical installations, resin flooring, timber sports
floor, and sports equipment all formed part of the works.
Additional works were required to deal with unexpected ground
conditions.

Demolition of part of the existing facility and extension to complete two
storey building with offices, pro-shop and changing rooms on the
ground floor and a restaurant and bar on the first floor. The first floor
walls of the restaurant consisted of a full height glazed screen facade
on three sides which overlooks the golf course.
The mechanical and electrical systems were completely stripped out
and complete new systems installed to cater for the new operations of
the building.
The works were co-ordinated to ensure that the operations of the golf
course were uninterrupted for the duration of the contract.

Camden Court Hotel

A conference centre, restaurant extension, retail area, and laundry
room were added as extensions to the existing hotel. The project also
included major refurbishment to the restaurant, reception areas,
administration offices, and basement facilities while maintaining the full
range of hotel activities throughout the entire period of the works.
Significant mechanical and electrical installations, including alterations
and interfaces with the existing services, formed part of the works.
A substantial portion of additional works were included in the contract
contract.
The works were coordinated and phased in order to maintain hotel
operability on a very tight centre-city site. All phases were completed

Olhausens Ltd contracted MDY Construction Ltd to manage and construct a food factory of 50,000
sq foot. There was an existing building which comprised of a warehouse and a small assembly line
for computer parts. This building was re-roofed, drainage put in and manufacturing rooms built.
MDY, through Mel OReilly, conducted site meetings with all the mechanical, electrical and other
contractors on the site. The schedule was tight; the project started at the end of May 2005 and
finished a week over in early November 2005. All building work was completed and the finishing of
the building was excellent. The snag list was attended to in a professional manner with any
outstanding issues completed. The project even came in on budget.
I would have no hesitation in recommending MDY construction for any building work especially
food premises. The knowledge in the core team in MDY certainly came to the fore in resolving
issues and in the management of the site.
This is the second building completed by MDY of which I had an association. I am looking forward
to another all going well.
