ENERGY PRE-DIAGNOSIS IN INDUSTRY AND BUILDING

1. Objectives
The objectives of energy pre-diagnosis are to:
o
o
o
o

educate business leaders on various aspects related to Energy,

develop, through a quick inventory, a material , energy, organizational, regulatory and financial balance of the
exploitation.
evaluate the energy savings potentials of the site,
guide the companys "energy water" approach by providing areas for improvement (simple actions, actions with
investment ...) and / or preparing one or more in-depth studies ( general instrumented diagnostic or specialized
diagnostic on a part of the manufacturing process, compressed air, steam) and/or answering a specific problem
related to energy (e.g. optimization of the operation of a centralized system of energy metering and management)

2. Procedure
The pre-diagnosis occurs in three stages:
o Stage 1: Preparation,
o Step 2: Investigation visit to the site,
o Step 3: Pre-diagnosis report.

2.1 Preparation
Preparation consists in HIGH TECH ENVIRONMENTs contributor to:
o Identify, in the company, the people (and their responsibilities) involved in the implementation of the prediagnosis,
o set the pre-diagnosis date ,
o send to the company:

the list of information to prepare, and eventually to return to HIGH TECH ENVIRONMENT,
before the completion of pre-diagnosis (thus saving time during the period of expertise)
a detailed work program with people to meet when carrying out the pre-diagnosis.

2.2 Investigation visit to the site

HIGH TECH ENVIRONMENTs contributor shall make a 2 to 3 days visit to the site (the duration of the visit can be
reduced depending on the site). This visit takes place according to the work program formerly sent to the company.
The site visit includes three distinct parts:
1) Opening meeting
2) Site review
3) Closing meeting

2.2.1 Opening meeting

The visit of the site begins with an opening meeting. The meeting brings together the management team of the company,
the staff involved in the pre-diagnosis, and HIGH TECH ENVIRONMENTs contributor.
This meeting aims basically at:
o presenting energy in its current context to the company (international context, regulatory context, the link
between energy and the environment.),
o evaluating the understanding and the general concern of the company in relation to Energy,
o recalling the work program of the investigation visit.

2.2.2 Site review

The site review aims at identifying issues and problems of the site related to energy. It is made from an investigation
protocol specific to the related sector of activity.
This protocol is written by HIGH TECH ENVIRONMENT, based on his 18 years of experience in the field of energy
efficiency, environment and sustainable development.
The investigation protocol allows for a review of:
o data on general activity of the site,
o overall energy performance of the premises,
o technical and functional installation,
o the regulatory situation.
An examination of each of the points enumerated above is performed on the basis of a survey questionnaire. Each
questionnaire is completed primarily from:
o extensive site visits,
o interviews of the concerned personnel ,
o the available documentation.

2.2.3 Review of data on general site activity

This review focuses on:
o the organization and structure of the company,
o the existing management systems,
o the future prospects (changes in production, investment projects ...)
o Site-specific constraints.

2.2.4 Review of overall energy performance over a year

The main objective is to assess the overall potential of possible energy savings.
The review of the situation focuses on :
o specific electrical consumption and specific thermal consumption
o the purchase price of electrical and thermal energy,
o production characteristics (nature of production, quantity, quality constraints on manufactured products.),
o internal management of energy (existing counters, dashboard, energy and contracts choices , reactive energy).
The energy situation of the premises is evaluated against the energy performance dashboard of the profession (standard
established by HIGH TECH ENVIRONMENT).

2.2.5

Technical and functional review of the installation

This review focuses on:

o the manufacturing process,
o the means of production and distribution of electricity,
o the means of production and distribution of steam, cooling and air conditioning,
o the means of production, distribution and use of compressed air,
o the recovery of the energy flow,
o the management and operation of facilities (maintenance, staff education and training).

2.3 Closing meeting

The site visit will end with a meeting whose essential purpose is to take stock on:
o the observations made during this phase,
o the remaining work (any additional information to be searched by the company, date of return of the report by
HIGH TECH ENVIRONMENT).

2.4 Pre-diagnosis report

After visiting the site, HIGH TECH ENVIRONMENTs contributor analyses the data and prepares a report showing the
results of its analysis.
This report shall include:

o
o
o
o
o
o
o
o

a simplified description of the main installations,

the indication of the key ratios used for energy analysis,
a balance over a year,
an assessment of the internal monitoring of energy
a brief summary of the major energy consuming workshops,
an assessment of fluid networks and primary counts (electricity, gas, water.)
an assessment of energy use in the production process, in the Annexes
proposals for possible actions to improve the situation. Each proposal shall specify the nature, scope and expected
and potential benefits of the recommended action.

3. Cost

of study

The total cost of an energy pre-diagnostic can be provided by your contact at HIGH TECH ENVIRONMENT with some
information on the extent and nature of the site.
