Barra do Furado Shipyard (Quissama, Rio de Janeiro)

Strengths
o Located near the Campos Basin
o Has a facility solely dedicated to offshore rig construction and repair
o Specialized in building vessels up to 150 meters in length
o Employs 1200 people directly
o Built near existing facilities, such as Niteroi shipyard
Weaknesses
o Cannot be used to construct larger vessels, such as a Suezmax tanker
Opportunities
o Can be used for construction of oil exploration vessels and facilities

Atlantico Sul Shipyard (Suape complex at Ipojuca)

Strengths
o Located near Suape Industrial Complex
o Has construction facilities for Petrobras oil exploration-related vessels
Opportunities
o Uses Samsung Heavy Industries construction technology because of technology
transfers

Rio Grande Shipyard (Rio Grande, Rio Grande do Sul)

Strengths
o Will be complete soon (Feb. 2010)
o Will permit construction of oil exploration platforms
o Located across Lagoa dos Patos from Porto Alegre
Weaknesses
o Originally scheduled for completion in Dec. 2009, pushed to Feb. 2010 (reasons
unknown)

Eisa Alagoas shipyard (Coruripe, Alagoas)

Strengths
o Located near Maceio
o Would employ 4,500 people

Weaknesses
o Wont be ready for a while: construction is not scheduled to begin until first months of
2010
Opportunities
o Eisa received an order for ten tankers from PDVSA, some could be built at Eisa Alagoas
o Eisa has orders for 22 vessels, but not all of these can be built at existing Eisa yard at Rio
de Janeiro
o Eisa has a $2 billion order book that includes Panamax tankers, bulk carriers and
container vessels. Some of these could be shifted to Alagoas.

Santos Shipyard (Santos, Sao Paulo)

Strengths
o Located near Santos Basin
o Dredging will soon increase depth to 15 meter
o Located near the port of Santos, according to Pedro Brito
Opportunities
o Expected to construct platforms for oil exploration
