Statement of Scope for the Annotated Bibliography
Some parents say that loving and caring for their child is beneficial for their childs life.
But too much love and care does more harm than one can imagine. Also known as helicopter
parenting, overbearing parents do not know what long term damage it does to their children. Yes,
parents only want the best for their children but they do not know what the damage they do. The
children of the overbearing parents also do not know what disadvantages they face in their
future.
Gregory Hickman states that if a child has overbearing parents affect their children
academically. He proved with a study that children with overbearing parents perform poorly
compared to students whose parents are more laid back about events in their life. Hickman also
mentions that kids with overbearing parents tend to be sneakier and look to their friends for
advice instead of going to their parents. Others argue that helicopter parenting is a good thing.
An anonymous author argues that helicopter parenting can be a good thing. They say that if the
child performs above average in school then that performance will reflect positively on the
helicopter parent.
Overbearing parents also known as helicopter parents do not know of the damage they do
to their children. They might argue that showing love and care to their children is a good thing.
In the end the child with the overbearing parents are at a disadvantage. The child will realize a
difference when they go off to live on their own. They wont have their overbearing parents
helping them every step of the way.
