A-Summary of Project Proposal

1.

Project Title: Developing a potable pressure measuring device for pressure

foot and develop a ready reckoner for various fabrics in sewing machine.

2.

Introduction: Today's world is known as an era of technical evolution, where

most of the manual works are being replaced by automated and semi-automated
machines. Generally in apparel industry quality problem is a major concern, so as
to rectify these problems a pressure device will be invented to measure pressure
between pressure foot and fabric layer.

Background study:
Quality of a garment is very important for the apparel industry, bad quality leads to
inflation of the cost and time, quality improvement is the initiative which has to be
taken by the middle management and the higher management but the low level
management is also considered because the actual deployment of the process is carried
out by the hands of lower management. To improve quality this project will leads to the
preliminary predictions of the quality issues before hand by implementing portable
presser measuring device to ensure the proper presser has to be maintained as per the
different fabrics.
Presser foot plays an important role in stitching the garment and the amount of the
presser required to stitch various types of fabric is essential, to rectify these problems
beforehand this device will be very important for the process also there is no device
available to measure presser for the fabrics in the market for apparel industry and the
devices which are available are very costly, due to the cost factor these devices are not
supported by the apparel industrialist.
Need of the project
Presser foot is an important part of the sewing process to maintain quality issues.
Pressure foot presser adjustment is very subjective in nature practically. Whenever
there is a need to change presser operator generally screw the presser foot bar to adjust
presser which leads to the increase in the allowance rate during the process.
Also the lack of such customized devices are not available in the market to measure
presser, if available they are very expensive.

Scope of work:
i)

Describe design Interventions in the project

Idea behind it:

While stitching a garment, in most operations variable pressure is required depending upon
fabric to fabric.
The aim is to design an attachment for the pressure foot pressure measurement to rectify or
predict quality defects occurs during sewing process. Device will consists of pressure
attachment and pressure meter, also to prepare a complete manual consisting of different
varieties of fabric with its pressure readings.

5)

Prior art search

Detailed study of sewing machine mechanisms.
Feasibility Study
Development of prototype
Testing of Prototype

iii) Describe the possibility of Commercialization of the outcome:

Our end product tackles both these factors.
Manual will be complied with lots of data regarding pressure requirement for
different fabric.
Ready reckoner leads to the decision making tool for improving quality.
Also, the proposed machine uses technology that is commonly available at very
reasonable rates.
Thus, our product has huge possibilities of being commercialized
