3. HYDRAULIC SYSTEM
3.6 Control Cables Installation
1
Turn .750-16 UNF Jam Nut entire length of Threaded Hub over the Cable.
Place Flange onto Sleeve and turn Flange/Sleeve Assembly entire length of Threaded Hub
back over the Cable.
Turn .250-28 UNF Jam Nut onto Cable Threaded Rod until it bottoms.
Thread Terminal Eye onto Threaded Rod and bottom against Jam Nut, turn to align with
Spool slot and secure Jam Nut against Terminal Eye.
Slide Terminal Eye into slot in Spool and align holes. Insert Connecting Pin and install
Retaining Ring into groove between Terminal Eye and one side of the Spool Yoke.
Now, with Cable attached to Valve and Input Device, turn the Flange/Sleeve Assembly back
onto the Threaded Hub until it is flush with the Valve Face. When turning on the
Flange/Sleeve Assembly, make sure that the Input Device remains in the neutral position.
Then tighten the .750-16 UNF Jam Nut against the Sleeve to lock in position.
Bring Flange into position and bolt Assembly to Valve Housing using two (2) .250-20 UNC x
1.26 lg. Socket Head Screws and two (2) split Lockwashers under head and two (2) Flat
Washers under Lockwashers. Tighten Screws sufficiently to flatten Lockwashers. CAUTION,
any further torqueing will distort Flange.

Cooling oil is only flowing when the Lowboy is in forward motion.
The pumps supplying the oil flow for the cooling system are driven by a gearbox connected to a clutch
and mounted to the differential. When the Lowboy is in forward motion, the axle shafts drive the
differential and gearbox. When the Lowboy is backing up, the clutch disengages the gearbox from the
differential.
There are two pump sections supplying oil flow to the cooling system. The rear pump (75GPM)
supplies the driver side cooling system and the front pump (75GPM) supplies the curb side cooling
system. Oil flows from each pump, traveling down stream in the following sequence: through a Pilot
Operated Relief Valve (Set at 80PSI), a Basket Filter Assembly (Replace filter bag at 15 PSID), a
Header Manifold, the Cooler Cores, a second Header Manifold, a Brake Housing and back to the
Hydraulic Tank.
The Cooler has three cores. Each core has two halves separated vertically. When the oil flows into the
first Header Manifold, the oil flow splits and continues on into three different core halves. The oil flow
then merges through the second Header Manifold before continuing on to the Brake Housing. This
design allows for temporarily isolating a core half if it should become damaged.

6.6.d Hydraulic Fan Drive Circuit Function

The fan can only operate when the Lowboy is in forward motion.
The pump, supplying oil flow for the fan drive, is driven by a gearbox connected a clutch and
mounted to the differential. When the Lowboy is in forward motion, the axle shafts drive the
differential and gearbox. When the Lowboy is backing up, the clutch disengages the gearbox from
the differential.
Oil flow from the pump (10GPM) is delivered down stream through a pressure filter assembly
(Replace filter element at 60PSID) to a tee at the inlet of the Control Valve Assembly. The Fan
Motor and the Control Valve Assembly are supplied at this tee. The Control Valve (with an
integrated relief cartridge set at 1450PSI) allows the oil flow to return to the hydraulic tank until the
temperature of the oil reaches 130 degrees Fahrenheit. At 130 degrees Fahrenheit, the Fan
Controller begins to increase the pilot pressure between the Fan Controller and the Control Valve
Assembly. The increased pressure signals the Control Valve Assembly to proportionally divert oil to
the Fan Motor. As the oil temperature increases, the Control Valve diverts more oil to the Fan
Motor and gradually supplies full flow for maximum fan speed at 150 degrees Fahrenheit. This
process reverses as the oil temperature decreases.
Return oil flow is routed to the two Brake Converter Make-up Tanks and the Hydraulic Tank.

6.7.c Filter Maintenance
The oil cooling system is equipped with a differential pressure gauge panel. The panel is located
below the driver side axle access hatch between the hydraulic reservoir and the brake converters.
There are three gauges each recording the PSID (pounds per square inch differential) across the
filters. As the pressure increases the black pointer increases dragging the red pointer. When the
pressure decreases the black pointer decreases and the red pointer remains at the highest pressure
achieved. The black knob on the gauge face is used to reset the red pointer. (Turn knob counterclockwise to reset)
Reference the below illustration for gauge identification and filter replacement pressures.

Model 120 Series Filter Minder

Installation and Operating Instructions
INSPECTION
Before installation check the nameplate on each
instrument against the receiving paperwork and the
intended application for correct part number,
materials of construction, working pressure, dial
range, etc. If equipped with switches, check electrical
rating, type of enclosure, etc. Inspect for shipping
damage and, if damaged, report it immediately.
NOTE - Before attempting repairs contact your
local Mid-West Representative or our factor y.
Failure to do so will void any warranty.
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Model 120 Series "Filter Minder" is a rugged,

medium-range differential pressure instrument
available as a switch, a gauge, or both. See "Part
Numbering System". (Fig. 4) for available options.
Differential pressure is sensed by the movement of a
floating piston magnet against a calibrated spring. The
magnetically coupled gauge pointer outside the
pressure housing follows the movement of the piston
magnet and indicates differential pressure on the dial
scale.
When equipped with switches, a contact is made or
broken by the magnetic field of the piston magnet.
See Bulletin ELECIM120/latest for gauges with
switches.
The unit provides full over-range protection to the
rated working pressure of the housing in either
direction.
The precise piston/bore fit allows minimal leakage

from high to low sides. This leakage is only 5 to 15
SCFH air at ambient conditions and a pressure
differential of 100 PSID.
INSTALLATION
Model 120 Series "Filter Minder" is calibrated and

tested prior to shipment and is ready for immediate
installation. Use of the following installation
procedures should eliminate potential damage and
provide optimum trouble-free operation.
1. CONNECTIONS
1/4 FNPT are provided as standard but check
paperwork for connections ordered. There are two
connections on the housing identified as hi and lo
for high pressure and low pressure (Fig. 2). Be sure
these get plumbed to the proper connections on your
system. Improper connection will not damage the
instrument, but it will not function properly. Flexible
tubing is recommended to minimize the effect of any
vibration that may exist.
2. INSTRUMENT LOCATION
On liquid service the instrument should be mounted
below the process connections to facilitate selfbleeding. On gas service it should be located above
the process connections to promote self-draining. If
the process contains particulates, a pigtail loop or
drop leg (manometer U-tube configuration) in the
tubing will minimize the possibility of it migrating into
the instrument.
3. PANEL MOUNTING
Gauges with 2-1/2 dials can only be mounted
through the rear of the panel. Make the proper panel
cutout as indicated in (Fig.1). Remove the (4) bezel
screws. Insert the gauge front through the rear of the
panel and reinstall the bezel screws through the front
of the panel and into the gauge bezel. Tighten the
screws securely, alternating in a diagonal pattern.
Gauges with 3-1/2" dial should be mounted from the
front of the panel. Contact factory for mounting
information and dimensional data.
Gauges with 4-1/2" dial should be mounted from the
front of the panel. Make the cutout as indicated in (Fig.
1). Insert the (4) panel mounting studs, finger tight, into
the metal inserts located in the rear of the bezel. Insert
the gauge through the panel, aligning the panel
mounting studs with the holes in the panel. Install the (4)
#8-32 nuts onto the studs and tighten securely.
TROUBLE SHOOTING
1. Gaug e does not indicate differential.
A. Check for proper hook up, high to hi and low
to lo.
B. Make certain block valves are open and, if using
a 3-valve manifold, that the equalizer (balance)
valve is closed.
C. If A & B check out correctly, loosen or
disconnect the high pressure line to determine
if there is pressure to the instrument.
D. If there is pressure to the instrument, check to
determine that there is differential across the
unit being monitored. If so, contact the factory
for assistance and/or an RGA (return goods
authorization) number to return the instrument
for repair or replacement.
4. PIPE MOUNTING
An optional pipe mounting kit is available for mounting
the gauge to a 2 vertical or horizontal pipe (Fig. 3).
