REMEMBER EDO

Characters

Remember Edo is a setting and system hack for Gregor Hutton's brilliant
story game "Remember Tomorrow." It is set during the historical Edo Period
in Japan, and inspired by fiction, particularly the anime series Samurai
Champloo. As such, historical accuracy isn't a major concern - for example,
ninja clans largely ceased to exist by the Edo Period, but what samurai
game can do without ninjas? Worry less about historical accuracy, and
more about what makes the fiction fun for everyone at the table.
The Edo Period is full of interesting shit - underground Christians face
persecution and death, foreign visitors are outlawed and residents cannot
leave the country. The samurai are in decline, sworn to corrupt lords and
petty vengeful Daimyo. Kabuki and ukiyo-e are new and popular, cuttingedge art forms. A centralized, military government enforces peace at the
end of a sword, but it is economically and culturally a calm time of
progress and advancement. For individuals that break the mold or pursue
their own agendas, numerous groups exist to help or hinder their progress,
yakuza and shogunate fight for control over cities and islands.
It's all way over the top, though. Samurai that have swords with names like
"Shining Shadow" and ninja traipsing through the shadows as assassins
sharpen their kunai. Play it up - it's more action than political drama!
