Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Illustrator
TextWrangler

Objectives:

Showcase some basic CSS and HTML

Showcase basic Photoshop and Illustrator abilities

Process:

I first had to create a basic html document showcasing a logo that I designed in a previous assignment. This was
done by writing code in TextWrangler. After outlining my basic document I had to add style with CSS. To do
this I added a link in my HTML document to my stylesheet and saved both files in the same folder. On the CSS
document I changed the colors of the font, the border, and the background. I also changed the fonts being used,
did some formatting to center things, and added a CSS comment. After the CSS was done, I pulled it up in my
web browser to view it.

Flier
Description:

My flier is visually appealing because of the alignment used. There is contrast and focus on different areas of the
flier because of the use of only black and white. The date of the convention is in bigger, darker lettering, so that it
stands out to the reader. The top of the poster feels much heavier than the bottom because of the darker colors,
and large image.

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe InDesign

Objectives:

The message of this flier is leadership.

The audience would be any person that is a leader that is looking to work harder and learn more about being
better at what they do.

Process:

I first had to draw out a few sketches that would work with the elements of the poster. I chose the one I liked the
best, then downloaded the text and image I was going to use. I positioned the words and image on the page, on
InDesign, according to my sketch, then got feedback about how it looked. After getting feedback, I made the
appropriate changes, and completed my flier.

Imaging
Description:

You are applying for a job with a company that is looking for an individual who knows photography and how to
design in Photoshop. The company has requested a sample of your work. You will create a full-bleed, 8.5 by 11,
photodesign that includes an original, new (since this weeks activity) quality image, a consistent color scheme
based on that image, some text, and a few design elements.

Program(s)/Tools:
Canon Powershot SD790IS
Canon Scanner/Printer
PhotoShop
Adobe Illustrator

Objectives:

To create a sample that would show I know the basics of photoshop.

Anyone interested in building a relationship would be drawn to the poster.

Process:

Choose a color scheme from the color wheel given to us. Create a photography environment, and shoot the
image with the color scheme in mind. Upload, and edit the photo with photoshop, then create a sample of the
photo with the appropriate color scheme. I had to use my Canon PowerShot SD790IS to capture the image, then
upload the image to Photoshop. I edited the image with levels, vibrance, selective color, and sharpness.
Then created a layout for my image. I chose an orange and blue color scheme, and used that for my background
and text.

Bobs Bagels is a bagel company

My audience is anyone in the area that is looking for someplace good to eat

Process:

First I had to come up with a company, so I came up with Bobs Bagels. Then I sketched out three different
sketches of logo ideas with potential color schemes and opened Adobe Illustrator.

1. For my first logo I searched online for an image of a bagel. After finding one that I liked, I traced it
using the pen tool, and two different layers. I created a couple of different layers for the different colors, and used
the ellipse tool to create sesame seeds. After creating the image, I scaled it down to the size I liked and added
the text around it. I downloaded the font for bagels.

2. For my second logo, I used the bagel shape that I created in the first logo and used the text tool to place
text along the inner path. I downloaded both texts from a website online. I changed the colors and matched it to
my color scheme.

3. For the third logo I created a simple box with the rectangle tool, then added the text. I downloaded the
text for the word, Bobs and changed the color of the entire word to indigo. I then changed the o to a brick
red color to make it look like a bagel. Finally I added the Violet box to the top of the logo.

Montage
Description:

You are in charge of creating a spiritual poster montage using images and type. You can use a scripture, a quote, a
thought, whatever you choose, but it must be spiritual in nature. Choose two or more images.

Objectives:

We have all been given gifts, and we should use them always.
My audience is anyone who needs a reminder that they are special and have a purpose and gift.

Process:

I gathered and downloaded a few images online; A brick wall, and4 different images of graffiti. Then after cropping the brick wall as the background for my image I started layering the graffiti images onto it. I created a mask
for every layer I added and blended the edges so that the graphic flowed together. After that I found a scripture
that fit with my design and separated the text into three blocks, I arranged the blocks and font size, position on
the image and changed the font size to add emphasis to the word gift. I added a filter to the background brick
layer to add texture and added the word Talent as a subtle message with an overlay.

Business Card
Description:

You are asked to design a new logo and stationery items. Create a new logo, not one that was used in the last
project, then design a business card and letterhead.

Adobe Indesign

Objectives:

The message of my logo, business cards, and letterhead is very playful. The company would hypothetically be a
childrens accessory boutique so I wanted the feel of it to be whimsical and playful.
My audience is any parent looking for original accessories for their tots.

Process:

I first had to create a new logo, I did this by searching the internet for an image of a box. Once I found one that I
liked I copied it to Illustrator and traced it on a new layer with the pen tool. I played around with the colors of it,
then added some text. I had the text already for both the words trinket and box so that was easy enough. Next
I made the business cards, I created a new document in InDesign and made 2 pages 2x3.5 inches. On one (the
front) I placed my name, contact information, and some playful dots in the color scheme that I was using. On
the other document (the back) I simply placed my logo. After creating the business cards, I created a new document in InDesign and made it 8.5x 11 inches for a letterhead. I placed my logo in the top left, added my name
and contact information, added some design elements, and placed my water mark of it. The watermark is simply
my logo but without the words.

Event Ad
Description:

For this project I had to find an image from a magazine and scan it into the computer, I then had to resize it so
that it would be a high quality image. After resizing the image I had to create some sort of an ad using the image
I scanned. It needed to have a full bleed image, which it has 3. It also needed to have a color scheme, so I chose
yellow and purple.

Ensign magazine
Canon MG3122 scanner
Adobe Photoshop
Microsoft Word

Objectives:

The message of this ad is to try and get people to come to a fundraiser for an assisted living center in the community.
The audience is anyone who would be interested in going to a fundraiser. The flyer would essentially be handed
out outside of stores, posted on boards around town, and posted on the communities web page. Anyone who
sees those type of things would be the audience.

Process:

The first part of this project was finding a picture to use. I looked around and found on of our old Ensign magazines, and flipped through it to find a picture to use. After I found one that I loked, I scanned it into my computer and brought it to my Word document. The entire ad had to be created using Word, so it was interesting using
Word to arrange an ad! I had to have a few full bleed images, so I made sure to have those go off of the page. I
added the text and such to complete the poster, and pulled the colors from the mans shirt into the final design.

Brochure
Description:

Your employer wants you to design a full-color, folding brochure to help promote the company product, service
or location. The purpose of your brochure may be informational or advertising. You may choose ANY topic.
Make this something you enjoy. Any duplex (two-sided) folding document can be considered a brochure. Brochures come in all sizes and shapes. You may use any folding brochure design you want and any size you want.
You may use one of the two sample layouts you did during the first activity (newsletter or offset brochure) or create something new. Use all three programs you have learned to create your brochure: design a logo in Illustrator,
edit images in Photoshop, and design the brochure layout in InDesign.

Objectives:

Create a message that says, You can create outstanding pieces by utilizing 3 programs that Adobe offers.
The audience is anyone that wants to use graphics to create things.

Process:

I had to come up with a design for a brochure. After deciding that I sized my page to the correct size, then did
a rough draft with my images and text. I created a document containing just the body text so that I could just
copy and paste it into my brochure. I received critique, built upon it, and finished up the assignment. I printed it
double sided on an 8 1/2 x 11 in page then folded it how it should be.
