Logos
Date: November 1, 2014
Instructor: Pingel
Course: COMM 130
Description: Three logo variations for the same company.
Objectives: Frozen yogurt is a fruity and colorful dessert.
Programs: Adobe Illustrator
Process: I used Illustrator to create the logos. For the first one, I created the orange out of shapes and chose a font to
match. For the second one, I created the swirl of yogurt out of ellipses and the curving tool. For the last one, I used the
same swirl of yogurt in a different color and added a line. I used a unique color scheme for each one.

Business Card
Date: November 8, 2014
Instructor: Pingel
Course: COMM 130
Description: Stationery using a personally designed logo.
Objectives: FirstHome is a fun, young, inviting company for new home buyers to turn to.
Programs: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop
Process: I used Illustrator to create the logo. Then, I created the business card front and back in InDesign. I inserted

lines and played with typography and alignment to make a pleasing design. I used a watermark effect for the back of the
business card. I used font sizes that clearly distinguished the body text from the logo.

Flier
Date: October 5, 2014
Instructor: Pingel
Course: COMM 130
Description: This project is a black and white flier promoting a graduate leadership conference for college seniors.
Objectives: I want to show college graduates that this conference will be professional and educational, but also
reachable and age appropriate.

Programs: Adobe InDesign

Process: I chose my best sketch out of four and created my vision using Adobe InDesign. I used contrasting fonts,

making the title much larger than the appropriately small yet readable body copy. I created black triangles in opposite
corners to draw the eye into the center of the page and provide some repetition. I made sure there was lots of white space
throughout and that none of it got trapped in the middle of the design.

Montage
Date: October 26, 2014
Instructor: Pingel
Course: COMM 130
Description: A spiritual montage created from two or more images, with use of typography and filters.
Objectives: God will comfort us when loved ones pass.
Programs: Adobe Photoshop
Process: First, I found two images that would work well together. I made the funeral scene the background and

montaged the angel on top of it. I used a Gaussian blur filter to make the background less distracting. I added the text in
cohesive fonts. I used the color from the tablecloth as the stroke behind the letters.

Brochure
Date: December 7, 2014
Instructor: Pingel
Course: COMM 130
Description: A unique logo and brochure for a company of your choice.
Objectives: Woofie Works is a charitable company that strives to give all dogs a home for the holidays.
Programs: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator
Process: I started by creating the logo in Illustrator. I used simple shape tools and typography. Then I created the

brochure in InDesign. I made the text wrap around one of the picture by clipping it in Photoshop. I used guides to keep
everything aligned.

Web Page
Date: November 21, 2014
Instructor: Pingel
Course: COMM 130
Description: A web page to display a personally designed logo.
Objectives: My message is that real estate can be a fun and easy experience for first time home buyers.
Programs: TextWrangler
Process: I used TextWrangler to make both my CSS and HTML code. I wrote up all of the text for the HTML code
and used tags to separate it into headers and a bulleted list. For the CSS coding, I edited the code to change font types,
colors, padding, and margins. I also used coding to link the HTML and CSS parts together.

Event Ad
Date: October 11, 2014
Instructor: Pingel
Course: COMM 130
Description: A color full-bleed event ad to promote a fundraiser using only Microsoft Word and a scanner.
Objectives: I am advertising a marathon that will benefit cancer research. Everything on the page symbolizes speed,
which is something associated with marathon runners.

Programs: Microsoft Word, Adobe Photoshop

Process: I used an HP LaserJet M4345 MFP scanner to scan the image of the racecar driver. After correcting the

pixels in Photoshop, I moved the image to Microsoft Word, where I stretched it enough to reach both ends of the page.
I filled in the rest of the page with analogous-colored boxes, creating a checkered-flag type of look. I added the title in
italics to make it look like it was traveling fast across the page, hinting again at racecar driving. Then I entered all of the
information for the event in the bottom left box.

Photodesign
Date: October 19, 2014
Instructor: Pingel
Course: COMM 130
Description: Use Photoshop to create a full-bleed, 8.511 photodesign with an original photo, consistent color
scheme, text, and design elements.

Objectives: I wanted to make an appealing look to pair with the quote. I wanted to promote the wear of jewelry.
Programs: Adobe Photoshop
Process: I took a picture of some jewelry on a table using multiple lamps for lighting. I edited the photo in Photoshop
and added a background color. On top of that, I put see-through boxes and then text on top of those. I chose a font that
matched the jewelry theme. I made sure that everything was different shades of orange, since some of the jewelry was
orange.
