IthinkthisParkmaybesomewhatoverrated,thoughinallfairnesswe
didseelions,andthatwastheprincipalreasonforvisiting.Thatinitself
madethetripworthwhile.
Theadministrationwasaggressiveandgenerallyratherunpleasant
camerapermitsareexpensiveatINR600pervisit(i.e.twovisitsina
dayINR1,200,soifyouhaveajeepwith6peopleandtwovisitsaday
for3daysthatcouldbeover200justforcamerapermits).Someofthe
administrativestaffwereOKbutsomeveryaggressiveandunpleasant
inpursuingthecamerapermits.Wehadgreattroublefromoneguide
"sneaking"onusthatonememberofthegroupwithoutapermithad
taken3pictures,sowewereledbacktotheadministrationblocktopay
theINR600.Oddlyenough,camerasinmobile'phonesseemedtobeof
nointeresttotheguards.Therewasnocourtesyorhumour.Wehad
muchvilespittingfromonedriver,andwerescreechedatbyoneguard
ontheentrancewhodidnotbelievethatwehadboughtenoughcamera
permits(wehad!).Therewasalotoflaborioussigningintobedone
evenifprebooked.
Guidesanddriverswereveryvariable,somewereexcellent,doingtheir
verybesttopointoutwildlife,butsomereallyjust'goingthroughthe
motions'.Thejeepsareprimitive(norolloverbarsforexample)and

knowingthatwehadnot,atthatstage,seenalion,said"wellshow

Wewerepleasedtoseeacoupleofyoungadultmalelions,thoughwe
wonderedtheextenttowhichtheywere"redintoothandclaw"asa
guidecalledupatrackerwho,onpaymentofINR500couldleadusto
lions,whichploddedslowlypastthejeep.Nicetoseethem.Itraisedthe
suspicionthatthesecoldbewildlionsthathadknownthetrackersince
birthandsowererelativelyfriendly.Onanotheroccasionwesawafull
grownlioninthedistance.Therewasalotofothercreaturestosee
deer,birds,mongooseetc.andcroclurkednearby!

confirmingandtherewewerefrom270914till02112014.
WesentaRequesttotheGirResortaskingwhethertheycouldarrange
transportfromthenearestairportetc.ImmediatelyMr.Gayasuddin
KhanofFrontOfficethererepliedwithin10minutesgivingeverydetail
andfollowedbytheTravelDescMr.Hareshsaying,hewillsendthe
vehicletoDiuairportwhichwasjust90kms.Awayfromtheresort.
Accordinglywewerewellreceived,Mr.Khanandteammadeourcheck
insosmooth.
ThemomentweenteredtheResort,thesprawlingtrees,sowell
maintainedgreenlux.Lawneverywerestruckasoothingfeeling.Place
issowellmaintained,onecouldkeepwalkinginsidetheresortand
enjoytheBestUnpollutedOxygensofreelyavailable.Morningyousit
outsideinyourroomsbalconyorbelowanytreeoutsideyourroomand
sipacoffeeorteam,youwillbesurroundedbycraneswalkingthrothe
lawnsandsomanydifferentkindofbirdschipperingandtheirventuring
toalsotrytowalkonsuchsmoothlawnCMismaintainingthere.
Fromthisresort,wewereluckytovisittheancientandoneofthe
JyothirlingasthanknownasSOMNATHjustwithinanhoursdrive.This
ismorethan2000yearsoldHindutempleofLordShivajustnowords
todescribe.Wespend2hoursinsidethetemple.BeautifulBeach
surroundingthebeachandalsoinawalkabledistanceyouwillfind
Sagamamthere.
DontmissgoingtoGirInterpretationZoneatDevaliya,whichisalso
closetothisResort.
WecouldseereallytheMajesticKingofForestLionsnotjustonebut,
thatdayalltogether5ofthemandvarioustypesofdeerfamily,jackals,
foxesetc.ItsworthgoingtothisDevaliyacentre,asitissmallinradius,
thus,weweretoldyouwillatleasthaveoneortwoLionssiting.
Bytheby,dontgooutforventuringfoodorOtherActivities.The
ResortsRestaurantyouwillfindverypleasinginchargeMr.Kishore
Kumarandhisteamtopamperyourtastebuds.Superbserviceand
qualityoffoodtobeappreciatedbytheentireteamthere.
Likewise,ifyouhappenedtogoovertherewithfamily,tochillyouhave
goodpoolandtheHolidayActivitiesarearrangedbyMr.AshrafandMr.
RameshSarvaniareoutstanding.Kidsreallywillenjoyallthefacilities
thereandthecollectionofbooks,kAROKEEsingingEvenyoung
coupleweretaughtSalsaandotherdancesbythisTeamofguys.This
RameshSarvaniandMr.AshrafareallroundersImustsay.Rameshis
toogoodinteachingYogatoo.
Finally,dontmissgoingforaWalkinthemorningtotheneighbouring
smallhillarea..withthisMr.RameshSarvani,whoisalocalandhashis
ownfarm,thus,knowseveryPlantsdetails.Wepassedontheway
severalTeakTrees,but,tillwewentwiththisgentleman,weneverknew
thatweareseeingsomanyteakandothertrees.ForCitydwellerslike
me,itwasaneyeopener.Amazingwealthofayurvedicandother
medicineusedplantsandleavesarethereandthisguyisgoodtoshow
youtheseplustoshowvariousbirdsinthatareathatcomeearlyhours

worksmiracleslikeDetol.Hedidpluckfewleavesfromthatplantand
squeezedthejuiceoftheleavestothisladyscutinherleg,though,it
didburnherthatmoment,shewasfinewithinfewminutes.Thus,it
becameapracticaldemoofqualityoftherareherbsandplants.
DuetosuchsurroundingcreatedbyCMwithintheResort,allyouhave
todoisHangoutthereforaweekwithfamilyasatotalCalmingandchill
outspot.Youwillnotregret.

Scraggly,brown,dryandthorny.Gir,thelastbastionoftheAsiaticlion,
isabeautifulbutharshteakdominatedhabitatinJunagadh,Gujarat.
Thepark'sforestedhillyterrainmakesitapreferredhabitatforthe
jackals,leopards,antelope,anddeerthatalsolivethere.It'shometo
crocodiles,andover300speciesofresidentbirdsaswell.
Climatically,DecembertoMarchisagoodseasontospotwildlife.
AprilandMayarenotrecommendedtovisitasitstoohotandarebyfar
thebestmonthsforwildlifeviewingandphotography.

Wewereluckytoseeafamilyof5lions(1male2femaleand2cubs).
Youhavetobookthesafariinadvanceastherearelimitednumberof
permitsallottedeachday.TheSafariisclosedinrainyseasonsso
