Rowan Kidsilk Haze (70% super kid mohair, 30% silk), 229 yd (210 m) / skein, 2 skeins of
colorways 585 (Black)
Karabella Lace Mohair (61% Superkid Mohair, 31% Poly, 8% Wool), 540 yd (494 m),
1 skein of colorway 3218 (Turquoise)
or about 460 yards (420 m) each of two contrasting colors in any laceweight mohair yarn(s).
Yarn needle for weaving in ends
Gauge is not critical for this project. The scarf can be worked in any yarn using appropriate
needles.

Skill Level
Intermediate. A quick and easy center panel of stockinette stitch with garter
stitch borders is worked first. Stitches are picked up at each short end and
the deep lace border is worked sideways. There is no sewing necessary.

FINISHING

Hold two strands of yarn, one of each color, together


throughout.

Weave in all ends and block. If desired, brush


surface briskly with a clean stiff-bristled brush (a new
fingernail-brush is ideal) to raise the halo of the
fibers.

Using 2 strands of yarn and knitted cast-on, CO 44 sts.


K 2 rows.

Lace Border Pattern in Words

Repeat the following two rows until the piece measures


approx. 42 (106.25 cm) from CO edge or 24 less
than total desired length or until nearly half the black
yarn is gone.

Setup row (work once): K17, YO, K2tog, K2tog


with edge st.

Row 1 (RS): K to end.


Row 2 WS): K3, P to last 3, K3.
K 2 rows.
BO loosely.
Lace Border
Hold two strands of yarn, one of each color, together
throughout. Work identically at each short end. The
border is be worked sideways from left to right with the
front of the stockinette rectangle facing you while you
work RS lace rows. The lace border is approx. 12 (30
cm) wide.
Pick up 44 st along short edge of rectangle, ending with
working tip of needle at right corner of short edge with
WS facing. Using knitted cast-on, CO 20 st. Work setup
row once, the repeat rows 1-12 of chart, knitting the last
stitch of each even (WS) row together with one stitch
along the short edge of the rectangle. Continue until
only one stitch remains. Work one more odd (RS) row of
lace border chart, then bind off the next row knitwise,
joining the last stitch with the last bind-off stitch. Repeat
at other end of shawl.

Row 1:

Slip 1 WYIF, K2, YO, K2tog, K15.

Row 2:

K17, YO, K2tog, K2tog with edge st.

Row 3:

Slip 1 WYIF, K2, YO, K2tog, [YO, K2tog]


6 times, YO twice, K2tog, K1.

Row 4:

K2, [K1, P1] into double YO, K14, YO,


K2tog, K2tog with edge st.
