About the course

Welcome to the Dr Edward Bach Centres Distance Learning Programme (DLP).
The DLP is an introductory level course that will help you learn about Dr Bachs
system of 38 flower remedies. It encourages you to explore the system so that you
can develop your knowledge and skills at your own pace.
Most people using the DLP will want to use the remedies to help themselves and
their friends and family. Others will use it as an entry route to an advanced (Level 2)
course and eventually to practitioner training (Level 3).
The DLP comprises five lessons.
1. First steps - understanding and using Dr Bach's crisis combination;
introduction to the remedies;
2. Self-help - making the remedies part of everyday life;
3. Theory - how the remedies work; Dr Bachs philosophy of health;
4. History - Dr Bachs life; discovery of the remedies;
5. Helping Others - helping friends select remedies; helping children; helping
animals and plants.
By the end of lesson four you will have studied all 38 remedies. Lesson five gives you
an opportunity to review what you have learned and put it into practice.

Support for learning

The DLP is a self-learn programme. The work you send in is not marked or assessed
in any formal way. Rather it is an opportunity for you to explore the remedies and
Dr Bachs principles and demonstrate to yourself how much you have learned.
In the letter accompanying this pack you will find the name and address or email
address of a person who will act as your mentor. He or she will look at your work as
you send it in and suggest areas for further study. Your mentor will respond in
writing to your questions, and you will have an opportunity to ask questions at the
end of every lesson.
Please help your mentor to help you by writing or typing your answers clearly and in
the spaces provided in the lessons. For preference use black or blue ink.
If you have any questions regarding the structure or administration of this course
you should contact your mentor in the first instance. All mentors are Bach
Foundation Registered Practitioners and as such work under the Dr Edward Bach
Foundation Code of Practice.
Once you have completed all five lessons go to www.bachcentre.com/learn to find
out how a Level 2 course can take your study and use of the remedies further.

Making the most of the DLP

Here are some suggestions to help you make the most of the Dr Edward Bach
Centres Distance Learning Programme.

Dont miss out on any of the activities. They are there to help you build your
knowledge and confidence.

Take your time. It is better to do a little each day than to try to do everything
at once. That way you will learn more and remember better.

Dont worry if you cant remember everything, especially after the first few
lessons - just look up anything you arent sure of and enjoy the course.

In answering questions, feel free to suggest any remedies that could apply
even if the course has not covered them yet.

Some of the questions ask you to think about your own personal experiences
and about how the remedies could have helped you. Learning about our own
feelings is a key part of learning to use the remedies, but you are free to set
your own limits to what you discuss.

Use the remedies on yourself. There is no better way to learn what they can
do.

Practise on your friends and family. You cant do any harm even if you select
the wrong remedies.

Read as much about the remedies as you can. See the recommended reading
list on the next page.

A note on safety
Bach flower remedies are very safe, and can be used alongside other forms of
treatment. They dont cause side effects and you cant build up resistance to them.
Nor are they habit-forming.
However, be aware that most remedies are preserved in brandy. If you dilute them
before use the amount of alcohol involved is tiny - a few drops spread over two or
three weeks. But anyone who has been advised to avoid all alcohol for health or any
other reason and is concerned at the presence of brandy should seek advice before
taking them.
People concerned by the alcohol might be able to use the remedies externally on
pulse points, as an alternative to taking them by mouth.

Corrections
In the box headed Taking the Remedies on page 34 of the Bach Remedies
Workbook additional doses of four drops refers to additional doses taken from a
treatment bottle.
