hearted land indeed. The Portuguese rule

from 1510 to 1961 left its imprint on local
language, religion, cuisine, music, and of
course, built heritage. The sea beaches and
hills were gifted by nature. Tourism brought
water sports, Western migrants brought
alternative ways of life, and everyone seems
to have brought beer and fish. The Goan
meanwhile is laid back and mellow.

Goa
The party capital of India, this little
paradise on earth is a package full
of surprises and contradictions.
Apart from happening beaches and
nighclubs in both north and south
districts, Goa has a number of
unexplored beaches, obscure caves
and other secrets spots waiting to
be explored. Other highlights of
Goa include its rich Portuguese
history, amazing seafood and the
friendly and vivacious locals.

Calangute Beach, North Goa, 403001,

India
Discovered by hippies in the 60s, Calangute
Beach stays one of the hippest of all the
beaches at Goa. With the blue waters of the
Arabian Sea lapping its shores, it's a heaven
for nature lovers. Plus, it lets you fly over the
waves with para-sailing and a host of
adventure sports.

There are many lounge areas spread on

the stretch, where you can laze in the sun
for hours. It has got many restaurants that
serve some really sizzling food, especially
continental and sea food. And as Baga
Beach sits right by its side, a walk can land
you right there. It's also one of the most
commercially buzzing beaches of Goa, and
you can bag in some chunk jewellery from
here.

Anjuna Beach

If you are a looking for a party or want to

see the happening life in Goa, then this is
the place to be. Referred to as the Freak
Capital of the World, this rocky beach has
quite a few venues for entertaining
backpackers and tourists. The soft white
sand and swaying coconut palms add to the
holiday spirit on the shore of the Arabian
Sea. Take a plunge into the calm waters or
try out bungee jumping at this happening
beach of Goa.

The fun and frolic is truly reflected at the

dance clubs, amphitheatres, restaurants and
bars. So, just relax and rejuvenate yourself.
Those of you who love shopping, Anjuna
Beach has the perfect offer- the weekly Flea
Market, which sets up every Wednesday.
One of the most famous venues for full
moon parties, this is a great place to shop,
eat and celebrate when in Goa - thanks to
the Anjuna Flea Market, delightful beach
shacks and party hubs like Paradiso and
Curly's.

Old Goa, Panaji, Goa, 403402, India

You can walk in here to pay respect to St
Francis Xavier, one of the founders of the
Society of Jesus. The silver casket inside the
cathedral here holds his remains. He had
wished to be buried in Goa and even though
he died on his way to China, his remains
were handed over to the church authorities.

da Gama, slightly over a kilometer lies the

islet of San Antonio, connected to the
Chicalim coast by a narrow strip of land.
Discernable by the crucifix placed on the
islet worshipped by locals of neighbouring
villages, its main attraction is the clam
digging or harvesting by the islet's
locals.

Naval Aviation Museum

Though the architecture of the church is

not ornate, the marble floor is embedded
with precious stones and is much of a
wonder for visitors. It's the only church in
Goa that has no plaster layers on the
exteriors. Basilica of Bom Jesus is one of the
chief attractions of Goa and sees a steady
trickle of visitors all along the year.

Off Vasco-Panaji coastal highway, NH-17, on
the Bogmalo road, lies the Naval Aviation
Museum, one of the only two military
aviation museums in India. Tracing the
history and evolution of Indian Navy over
the years, the museum has an expansive
and comprehensive collection. The outdoor
display in itself is huge with 13
decommissioned aircrafts on display like the

War II. The indoor collection is spread over

the two-storey gallery. You can read up on
significant battles that have been fought
over the decades by Indian Navy and
Airforce and get to see weapons that are
typically attached to submarine and ships as
well as cannons, torpedoes, bombs and
sensors used by Indian Navy.

Even more exciting, yes, there's more, are

the really massive replicas of INS Vikrant
that played a key role in the Indo-Pakistan
1971 war and INS Viraat, which is not only
the flagship of Indian Navy but also the
oldest carrier in service. Giving a bit of
dramatic overtone to your visit, there might
be Navy's aircrafts and jets whizzing through
the sky on their daily practice runs at the
Naval Air Base next door. While the museum
visit might have you tempted to get into one
of the fighter aircrafts on display and take
off, you can console yourself with miniature
versions available at the gift shop selling
memorabilia.

for the wide array of cuisines, including

Italian, Thai, Japanese, Continental and
Goan, that the duo offers. Try some Thai
Spring Rolls with Glass Noodles or their
pizzas baked in a wood-fired oven, designed
by Dima himself. Bora Bora was initially a
party hub, known for its regular beach
parties. These parties now occur 3-4 times a
year, particularly on Dima's annual birthday
bash and New Year's Eve. You'll find people
raving about Bora Bora's cottage cheese,
prepared from organic milk and simply put,
quite divine, so much so that they're
considering selling this at local grocery
stores. The restaurant is open 24 hours a
day, attracting many travellers who come
into Goa late at night and take a cab straight
to the restaurant.

The Goan beef curry with rice, garlic

prawns and sea food platter are a must try
along with colourful, delicious desserts to
complete your meal. An evening spent at
this dazzling restaurant truly completes your
holiday in Goa. Authentic local food, the sea
and a great time, need we say more?
