FINAL EXAM CROSS-CULTURAL COMMUNICATION

1. The assignment covers:
a. An introduction containing several important aspects of cross-cultural
communication (the nature of communication, culture and intercultural
communication, language and intercultural communication)
b. A brief description of and discussion about the relationship between culture,
language and foreign language learning.
c. A presentation of and discussion about several linguistic and non-linguistic (cultural)
aspects worth highlighting in relation to the teaching of English in Indonesia
(particularly in Lombok).
d. Rationale for choosing the points In c.
e. List of references used.
2. The assignment should be at least 2500 words long (excluding attachments), with points
c and d as the longest part.
3. Format of writing:
a. Margins: be left 4 cm, right 3 cm, top 3 cm, and bottom 3 cm.
b. Space 2 between lines, and 3 before subheadings.
4. Criteria for assessment in terms of content and form:
a. Quality of presentation of topics under discussion in points a and b in No. 1
b. Quality of data presented and rationale for proposing the linguistic or non-linguistic
aspects.
c. Coherence and structure of the paper and order of points of discussion/argument.
d. Clarity and accessibility of text including clear and consistent layout, script, and
spelling; provision of subheadings where appropriate, introductory and concluding
paragraphs for each section, topic sentence, avoidance of overly long and complex
syntax, etc.
e. Clarity, consistency and appropriateness of academic conventions for quoting,
paraphrasing, attributing sources of information, citing references, etc.
5. Due date is the date of final exam for this subject.

FINAL EXAM TRANSLATION AND INTERPRETATION


Examiner: Dr. Muhammad Amin, M.Tesol
1. The assignment covers:
a. An introduction containing several important aspects of translation.
b. A brief description of the translators' profile containing each translator's linguistic
and sociocultural background (age, gender, languages spoken, educational
background, cultural background).
c. Analysis of each translator's translated text (covering the strengths and weaknesses)
viewed from different aspects of translation theories and studies.
d. A description of recommendation to improve each translator's language abilities
based on the analysis in Point c.
e. List of references used.
f. Attachment of the source text and 2 translated text from each subject.

spelling; provision of subheadings where appropriate, introductory and concluding
