= Song studies?

El ttulo me parece curioso en su notacin matemtica aunque no entiendo bien
la X antes de cultural approach. Tal vez puedas prescindir de ella.
Literary scholars who have studied songs have mainly focused on the lyrics and
have treated them as poems. Musicologists, on the other hand, have devoted
little, if any, attention to the songs text. Should a literary or cultural studies
scholar have musical knowledge to analyze a song? Should a music or
musicology scholar have more literary theory knowledge [knowledge of literary
theory] to study a song? In this presentation, I will contend that the answer to
these questions is yes. I propose an interdisciplinary approach that stresses the
importance of taking [both aqu mejor] into account both, context and theory[No

como verbal and musical text]. I divide song analysis in 4 sections: 1Contextual; 2-Musical; 3-Textual; 4-Comparative. In the first section we will
identify if we are dealing with an anthem, a song from a longer album, who is it
by, when was it composed, who wrote the lyrics and who composed the music,
whether it belongs to any specific musical movement, etc. In the second section
we will focus on rhythm, harmony, melody, form and arrangements. In the third
section we will focus on the theoretical approach we use to analyze the text:
gender studies, Marxism, historicism, etc.[esta frase la debes cambiar un poco

In the fourth section we will try to see how the musical element supports or
opposes our thesis in the literary analysis. Finally, I will try to show this using
some examples with a specific song and other musical examples. With all this,
what I am trying to find out is whether we could start thinking of a new
discipline that we could call song studies [and] that forces both literary
scholars and musicologists to understand each other in a deeper way.
El tema y la idea me parecen buenas y pertinentes. El resumen podra ser, o al
menos sonar, un poco ms sofisticado desde el punto de vista conceptual. Creo
que lo interesante sera la posibilidad, adems de lo que sealas arriba, de
aplicar teora musical al component verbal y teora literaria o cultural a la parte
puramente musical, es decir, entrecruzar teoras y objetos de estudios para
despus ponerlos en comunicacin. Evidentemente, esto puede ser algo que
hagas ms tarde cuando desarrolles la ponencia y por ahora probablemente con
lo anterior baste.
