When he reached the age of

understanding, he travelled to
study with his uncle Ismail ibn
Yahya Al Muzni, the most faqeeh
of imam Shafeeis companions.
Whenever he did not agree with
his uncles conclusions, he would
turn to the books of Imam Abu
Hanifas companions and would
choose many of his conclusions.
His uncle deposited his
conclusions including his
adopted ones from Imam Abu
Hanifa in a book called
Mukhtasar Al Muzni i.e. The
summary of Al Muzni

When his knowledge grew in the

mad-hab of Imam Abi Hanifah,
he followed it.
This, however, did not prevent
him from disagreeing with His
imam because his adoption of the
Imams views was not because of
taqleed.

Imam Ad-dhahabi stated in his

At-tarikh Al Kabeer the Big
History: the Faqeeh, The
Muhaddith, The Hafiz, one of
the Prominent scholars. And
he was Thiqah, thabt, Faqeeh
and Aaqil (intellectual and
wise)
Ibn Katheer described him as;
One of the great trustworthy,
confident in his abilities, and
extremely capable memorizers

Importance of Aqeedah

Field of Aqidah is the most important field of

knowledge because the honor of a field of
knowledge is based on the honor of the known
This field of knowledge informs people of their
Creator:
It informs them of the path to Him
It also informs them of the reward which Allah
SWT has prepared for them after following the
path

Sources of Knowledge in Aqeedah

The Quran
The Sunnah of the Prophet SAAWS
The Understanding and practice of the
Companions of the Prophet SAAWS

Exercise
Write down on a separate sheet your own
justification for the use of the above-mentioned
sources in Aqeedah:
The Quran:
.
.

The Sunnah:
.
.

The Companions understanding and practice:

.
.

Following the understanding and the

practice of the companions RA because:
They are the students of Rasoul Ullah SAAWS
They are recommended by Allah SWT in the Quran
as well as by the Prophet SAAWS
They are known of their dedication in learning,
practicing the deen
They are known of their extreme love for Rasoul
Ullah SAAWS
They are known of their extreme piety

Raised high above ranks (or degrees), (He is)

the Lord of the Throne (of Authority): by His
Command doth He send the Spirit (of
inspiration) to any of His servants he pleases,
that it may warn (men) of the Day of Mutual
Meeting,Ghafir (The forgiver) 40:15

And thus have We, by Our Command, sent inspiration to

thee: thou knewest not (before) what was Revelation, and
what was Faith; but We have made the (Qur'an) a Light,
wherewith We guide such of Our servants as We will; and
verily thou dost guide (men) to the Straight Way,Ash-Shura (Counsel) 42:52

The Way of Allah, to Whom belongs whatever is in the heavens and

whatever is on earth. Behold (how) all affairs tend towards Allah.
42: 53

The benefits of the Quran

We send down (stage by stage) in the Qur'an that which is

a healing and a mercy to those who believe: to the unjust it
causes nothing but loss after loss.
Al-Israa (The Night Journey) 17: 82

O mankind! there hath come to

you a direction from your Lord
and a healing for the (diseases) in
your hearts,- and for those who
believe, a guidance and a Mercy.
Yunus (Jonah) 10:57

He said: "Get ye down, both of

you, all together, from the
Garden, with enmity one to
another: but if, as is sure, there
comes to you guidance from Me,
whosoever follows My guidance,
will not lose his way, nor fall
into misery.
"But whosoever turns away
from My Message, verily for him
is a life narrowed down, and We
shall raise him up blind on the
Day of Judgment."
He will say: "O my Lord! why
hast thou raised me up blind,
while I had sight (before)?"
(Allah) will say: "Thus didst
thou, when Our Signs came unto
thee, disregard them: so wilt
thou, this day, be disregarded."
Taha 20:123-126

Arguments against the Companions

way
Their way is safer but the way of the latter
generations is more knowledgeable and wiser
They did not spend time and efforts in fiqh while
the latter generations did

Logical arguments
The Subjects of Aqidah include:
Knowledge of Allah SWT
Knowledge of Allahs rights
Knowledge of What Pleases Him and the
proper way to worship Him
Knowledge of the reward prepared for
those who obey Him
Knowledge of the punishment prepared for
the ones who disobey Him

The Quran
Is the word of Allah
There is no one who knows about Allah more
than Allah SWT Himself
There is no one who loves to be praised and is
entitled to the Praise other than Allah SWT
This explains why the Quran is the Primary
Source of understanding aqidah

The Sunnah
Write your reasons for accepting the Sunnah as
the second most important source of Aqidah:

:

We say about Allah's unity believing - by
Allah's help - that Allah is One, without
any partners

Noah
Hud
Salih
Shuaib
Worship Allah, you have no
god beside Him

-. )6

We have sent in every nation a

messenger [to instruct them] to
worship Allah alone and to avoid atTaghut (i.e. every thing and every
one worshiped besides Allah while
accepting such worship or any one
that misleads and influences people
to stray from Allahs path)

We did not send before you a

messenger but We inspired him that
there is no god except Me, so
worship Me

The most essential principle of all prophets

dawah is tawhid
Shahadatain is the first instruction and
invitation a person should receive
The one who accepts it before puberty is not
required to affirm it or renew it after puberty
After puberty, the Muslim should be required to
practice salat, zakat, fasting and Hajj

The ruling on the one who practices some of the

requirements of Islam without pronouncing
Shahadatain:
He is a Muslim even if he does not repeat the
shahadatain
Tawhid is the first obligation and the last one
There are three types of tawhid:
Asmaa and Sifat (names and attributes)
Rububiyyah
Uloohiyyah

The most important of which is tawhid al

ulouhiyyah
Those who negated the Tawhid of Asmaa and
Sifat denied Allahs names and attributes
Their arguments lead to the denial of Allahs
existence
The false claims of Allahs unity with His
creation, etc.

There is nothing like unto Him

(He is) the Creator of the heavens and the

earth: He has made for you pairs from
among yourselves, and pairs among cattle:
by this means does He multiply you: there
is nothing whatever like unto Him, and He
is the One that hears and sees (all things).

Nothing like unto Him

He is the All Hearing All

Seeing

Negating the existence of any

god other than Allah

There is nothing that can overwhelm

Him. There is no god other than Him.

Say: If there had been (other) gods with Him,

as they say,- behold, they would certainly have
sought out a way to the Lord of the Throne!
Al Israa 17:42

If there were, in the heavens and the earth,

other gods besides Allah, there would have
been confusion in both! but glory to Allah,
the Lord of the Throne: (High is He) above
what they attribute to Him
Al Anbiyaa (The Prophets) 21:22

No son did Allah beget, nor is there any god

along with Him: (if there were many gods),
behold, each god would have taken away what
he had created, and some would have lorded it
over others! Glory to Allah. (He is free) from
the (sort of) things they attribute to Him!
The Believers 23:91

He is the Eternal without a beginning

and enduring without end. He will
never perish or come to an end.

Nothing happens except what He

wills.

No imagination can conceive of

Him and no understanding can
comprehend Him. He is different from
any created being.

He is living and never dies and is

eternally active and never sleeps

. He causes death with no fear and

restores to life without difficulty..
"There is nothing like Him and He is the
Hearer, the Seer". [ash-Shura 42:11]

He creates without His being in need

to do so and provides for His
creation without any effort.
Bringing creation into existence did not add anything to His
attributes that was not already there. As He was, together with
His attributes, in pre-eternity, so He will remain throughout
endless time. It was not only after the act of creation that He
could be described as the Creator nor was it only by the act of
origination that He could he described as the Originator. He
was always the Lord even when there was nothing to be Lord of,
and always the Creator even when there was no creation. In the
same way that He is the Bringer to life of the dead, after He has
brought them to life a first time, and deserves this name before
bringing them to life, so too He deserves the name of Creator
before He has created them. This is because He has the power
to do everything, everything is dependent on Him, everything is
easy for Him, and He does not need anything.

He has always existed together with

His attributes since before creation
