Intro to Electronic Media - F 9:20-12:15

Prime Time Project
Television is a big part of todays media, and a big part of peoples everyday lives.
According to Nieselen Number, Americans spend 34 hours a week watching TV.
Children at the ages 2-11 watch an average of 24 hours of TV a week, or 31/2 hours a
day. That number dips to 22 hours for teens, ages 12-17, then goes back up to 25 for
18-24s. The main times in which Americans mainly watch TV is called Prime Time, that
is also when all the channels are practically in a big competition with each other, for
better ratings and viewers.
Usually, a lot is going on in PrimeTime everyone has their own genres they chose
for different slots, Sitcoms, Drama, Reality Shows, and Game shows. Theres a wide
variety for people to pick.
Full house is about a family in a moderate house, with a hand full of kids, teens,
parents, aunts and uncles, living and going through obstacles in their lives. This show
has the family struggle through deaths, school, jobs and arguments(real life situations)
practically so the audience can relate. This show has always been a classic in my
generation, and there is nothing wrong with how it is, but a well thought out show.
This episode in particular was about Rebecca and Jesse are apprehensive about
their twin boys attending preschool. As well as Stephanie becomes rebellious due to a
friend's influence.
The target audience is pretty wide, I would say for people that are in their teens
through 30s with their families. The commercials throughout the program had different
variety of things, for example there were toys for kids while the next couple of

commercials are for adults.

Then for my second program i watched TMZ, which is not a show I usually watch
nor a show I want to watch in the future. The shows target audience is most definitely
adults that are in their 20s. Both the commercials (which are mostly pointed at adults),
and the way the show is made (pop-star gossip) is a big give away of the audience.
There is a big difference between the two shows, one is about a family and how
they work out there problems; clean, calm, and kid-friendly, while the other one is about
pop-star gossip; crazy, hyper and fast.
What Nick at Nite usually has is a quick sneak of what is coming on next after
wards during the commercials(which was The Fresh Prince of Bel Air), while for MyTVs
TMZ commercials had, what was coming up in the show TMZ as well as a lot of
commercials about what else is on that Network.
I find that Nick at Nite has more commercials about items that they get more
money from while the network MyTV has mostly commercials about their network, what
is playing and telling the viewer that they should look into their network more often.
Which is a nice way to get more views but probably does not get as much money off of
having commercials.
The shows that I have chosen have been on the air for about 10 years or more,
which is assumed that people enjoy watching them. That means those shows will not
being ending anytime soon, (even if Full House is re-runs). The shows are worth the
value, being on the networks, and also help having the commercials reach out to people,
especially during PrimeTime.
