Howdy Folks
Well hell, its November already

Every month the Car modelers pull out all the stops
and send in their photos and they are the reason we
have managed to survive this far.
Would you like to contribute an article or maybe even a
build or kit review?
You really dont need to be Shakespeare because I
have a very clever computer that sorts all that out.
You can submit in word format, with a few photos. (size
doesn't matter as I can compress the pictures).
Im looking for maybe a couple of guys that would be
interested in doing an article or column every month
maybe, something funny, modeling related, give everyone a good giggle.
If youre interested, drop me a mail on the any of the
emails below, or sms me, I dont mind and lets have a
chat, or alternatively you can chat to me at the SANNL.

Hope you are all making up your lists for Santa (and I
hope you all actually get it), and winding yourselves
down for the Christmas Holidays.
The SANNL has finally come and gone, the build up
was massive, the event was epic and now we have all
returned home from an exhausting weekend with great
memories, loads of new friends, ( an embarrassing
amount of kits) and a renewed vigor to build, build
build !
Theres a big photo section this month about the
SANNL, the Folks and the Models and what you all
missed if you werent there.
Slight technical difficulties this last month with my
computer, as well as Life and other irritating stuff getting in the way, just didn't give me the time to get the
magazine out for October, so this edition will be split
over the two months.
Normal service will resume next month...

WHATS HAPPENING ONLINE...
Firstly, Id like to take the time to thank everyone that has registered on the Website, and especially all the guys
that are contributing with photos and articles etc.
We may only be small in number, but looking at the standard of work, we are anything but and we can definitely
give our European and American friends a run for their money.
Ok, we have our first Group Build (GB) currently underway, 2 Seaters / Sports Cars and that will be running until
February. The next GB will be epic because its Muscle Cars Check the website out under the Competitions banner for all the details, and theres prizes too.
Ive also started a section called SANNL Debrief, the intention being that the guys that entered models in October
can post up pics of their Cars, tell us what they did, how they did it, and share some of their secrets & building
tips with everyone. This isnt just for models that won an award, its for everyone that was there. There were a hell
of a lot of very nice models on display and sometimes its difficult to see just exactly what went into them, Martyns
Ford Courier is a good example.
Keep on posting your pics of your models. Doesnt have to just be 1/24th scale, can be any scale you like.
Lastly, a big thank you to Gerhard Van Vuuren for starting the SANNL Friends on Whatsapp and giving us all another reason not to do any work

NEW STUFF
SUBARU BRZ STREET CUSTOM

The New BRZ Street Custom comes to us with 15 spoke wheels, and
plenty of add on bits to make to look even sexier!. Also available a Carbon Fibre Decal sheet with decals for the Bonnet, Roof, Boot and just
about everywhere else by the look of it...

1/12th LOTUS 49 1967- THE GRANDADDY OF THEM ALL...

This kit was first released in 1973 and was one of the first 1/12th Scale Tamiya F1 Car kits. The re-release
sees it with metal air funnels, with PE parts for the brake discs, radiator & more plus decals by Cartograf.
An excellent kit in 73, and no doubt made that little bit better. Lets also hope they do the 49B.

OFF ROADERS...
If you are a bike fan like me, then these three
re - releases are very welcome indeed and are
apparently the 3 most requested bikes.
The CR 250R, CR 450R and RM 250 are excellent kits. Superb detail on the engines and
swing arms and decals have been redone.
The CR 450 comes with a rider figure and a
special stand to display it in a jumping pose.
Lots of these going into my stash
Release is scheduled for November in Japan,
so we may get them in time for Christmas...

NEW STUFF
TOYOTA CELICA 1600 GT
Designed as the ultimate cruising car,
the Toyota Celica 1600GT featured a
four-cylinder engine, elegant 'Cokebottle' styling, and a sporty two-door
layout. Though it never achieved the
same popularity as some supersporty models, the Toyota Celica was
within reach of most consumers who
wanted a little muscle and a lot of
comfort. This limited edition kit features new wheel and tire parts plus
full decals

TOYOTA CELICA GT-FOUR 91 Monte Carlo Winner

Nice new one from Aoshima, expected late November, the GT-Four 91 Monte Carlo Winner. Also available a
separate detail up set containing PE sheet and seatbelt material

1/12th FIAT MEPISTOPHELES

If you are a big fan of the old Protar
kits, then this is a kit for you. In their
original form, they are hitting prices of
1000+ but thankfully for us, Italeri
have decided to release the kit again.
It is a whopper of a car, 500 pieces,
full engine and chassis details and
nice set of scale wire wheels.
The Fiat was a Speed Record breaker
back in the good old days where if you
wanted to go faster, you bolted an aircraft engine onto your car, slapped on
a little leather helmet and pushed the
loud pedal down until you either
broke the record or killed yourself.
Dont know of any plans for SA wholesalers to bring them in, but will keep
you updated. They are available on
pre-order in Europe already for around
100GBP.

RESPOKING MOTORCYCLE WHEELS

This is the way I go about it, its not definitive but for me it works. Even though the examples below are specifically for
Motorcycle wheels this can work just as well on car wheels

What you need, a Stainless Steel pool brush, the wheels for your bike
kit, a pair of good quality side cutters and a pair of snipe noses pliers
and CA to glue the spokes. Lastly a length of .3mm ID aluminium tube.
Ok, youll needs to cut all the bristles from the brush and then discard
the handle portion.
Youll also need to build a jig to hold the hub and the rim of the wheel

This is the wheel jig with the wheel removed to show how it was constructed.
It doesnt have to be fancy just good enough to hold the rim and hub whilst
you build the wheel.
Assemble the jig so that the hub sits on the base and the rim is held up by 50%
less than the thickness of the hub minus the rim. Hub from face to face, rim
width divide the two and then divide by 2. This will give you the height to pack
the rim. A spindle to hold the hub and four posts to hold the rim. Dont try and
skimp this part or youll end up with disaster.
Make note of the spoking pattern as the next bit seems quite scary, so take a
photo and print it off. There are several lacing patterns for motorcycle wheels, so
just check.

OK, action time, assemble the wheels as per the kit instructions, mark two
reference points opposite each other one on the rim and one on the hub.
This will allow you to line up the two when you place then in the jig.
Then cut all the spokes from the rim and then from the hub. This sounds a bit
drastic but youll see it makes sense.
At each point where the spoke enters the rim and the hub drill a .3mm hole
(drills available from Cape Watchmakers). Then clean up the rim and the hub.
If its moulded in, do not cut off the nipple dome on the rim.
OK, count how many spokes youve cut out and then youll need a corresponding number of bristles from the pool brush. With the aid of the snipe
nosed pliers band over 1.5mm of one end of each (or less check the hub
flange thickness). Youll end up with a pile of these but dont worry about the
length they can be trimmed later, once inserted into the rim.

RESPOKING MOTORCYCLE WHEELS

If you wish to represent the nipple that anchors the spoke into the rim then youll need to purchase a length of .3mm ID ali
tube (see Albion Alloys address below) and cut the same number of nipples as spokes. They need to be 1.25mm long!
Remember to buff the ali tube first it will look better.
Now, referring to the photo you printed off or the other wheel from the kit, you can start spoking the wheel. Insert a spoke
into the rim with a nipple slid onto the spoke if you are adding the nipples, then drop the bent end into one of the holes in
the hub. Carry on working round the wheel until you have all the outside spokes in their corresponding holes and then trim
off each end at the rim you can then glue them up. Now do the same with the spokes that fit in from the rear of the hub and
glue these up. Once that has been achieved, you can carefully pop the assembly out of the jig turn it over and proceed with
the other half.
Once you have achieved this youll end up with something that looks like the pic below.
