Critical Degrees
The Critical Degrees are 0, 13, 26 of Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn), 9 and 21 of Fixed signs
(Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius), 4 and 17 of Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces). When a Critical
Degree falls on a house cusp, it shows stress and climax. The matters of the houses ruled and occupied by a
planet in one of the critical degrees is grave, serious, and climactic. See also Aries Point
Moon Wobble
A Moon Wobble happens when the Sun forms a square to the nodal axis. The energy is very similar to that
associated with eclipses, when the New or Full Moon aligns closely with the lunar nodes. As with eclipses, a Moon
Wobble arouses emotions and there is a tendency to react overly quickly to situations based on feelings instead
of thinking things through with calm logic. It is advantageous to avoid making sudden or drastic changes near a
Moon Wobble.
It was astrologer Carl Payne Tobey (1902-1980) who coined the term Moon Wobble. After a painstaking
examination of a large number of major disasters, involving fires, bad weather and loss of life, he found that many
of the most serious and traumatic catastrophes occur in association with eclipses, especially when other dire
planetary aspects coincided. He also found however that such evils are not exclusively linked to eclipses and may
also occur when the Sun forms a T- square to the nodal axis. He called this a Moon Wobble, for it is in fact when
the Moon is wobbling in its path by declination. So, when the Sun is conjoined with either node or is in this T
square to the nodal axis, this raises the likelihood of major environmental damage, loss of life or property, or other
dire effects. As stated, these types of problems are more likely if other troubling planetary configurations occur at
the same time. The most notable times for disastrous occurrences range from a few days before to a few days
following the exact aspect.
The 2010 Moon Wobble effects are strongest on: January 11, April 6; July 3 (between two eclipses), September
30 and December 24. For 2011, the Moon Wobble effects are strongest on March 18, June 14, September 11, and
December 12. For 2012 the Moon Wobble effects are strongest on February 28, May 25, August 22 and
November 17. For 2013, the Moon Wobble effects are strongest on February 9, May 7, August 4, and October 30.
For 2014, the dates that Moon Wobble effects are strongest are January 23, April 18, July 16 and October 12. For
2015, the dates that Moon Wobble effects are strong are January 5, March 31, June 27 and September 23.
Note that the destructive earthquake that stuck Haiti occurred on January 12, 2010, one day after the Sun-North
Node conjunction and a few days prior to the Capricorn Solar Eclipse. See more by linking to Decoding
Earthquakes. The mine explosion in West Virginia occurred near a Moon Wobble in early April 2010 as did the
earthquake in Baja. In 2014, an overloaded ferry sank off the coast of South Korea, drowning dozens of high
school students AND over 200 Nigerian school girls were kidnapped. These events as well as a cluster of quakes
occurred near the Moon Wobble effects in April. If you have noted an event occurring near a Moon Wobble, email
me.
position of the lunar nodes became popular, referred to as the True Node. There is barely a difference in the two
measurements, usually just a degree or so, but most everything written about the nodes and their karmic
implications is based on the older method of calculation that gives their Mean position. This is discussed in my
book, Lunar Nodes.
I have found this technique can also be applied in Mundane Astrology, except it is the True Node that appears
most predictive and informative. For example, in the New Moon chart prior to killer Hurricane Katrina, Venus was
in the degree of the True Nodes, sitting in the 6th house and in the sign Virgo. The North Node was 15 Aries 37
and Venus was 15 Virgo 42. Even by aspect Venus suggested sudden dis-ease, falling in the house of public
health and well-being, opposed by Uranus. There was a second indicator that critical developments were brewing
that would affect not just public health and safety but also impacting the civil services sector and emergency relief
care workers such as the Red Cross. Jupiter was in a critical degree in the 6th house, ruling all such matters.
Similarly, the eclipse charts of late 2002 featured Neptune in the degree of the True Nodes prior to such major
events as the beginning of the war in Iraq and the Shuttle Columbia tragedy. In the first case, Neptune accurately
suggested some confusion or deceptive qualities, and the US entered that war based upon false intelligence. In
the latter case, Neptune appropriately reflecting the disintegration of the shuttle and the wispy cloud like
formations in the sky as a result. The Solar Eclipse chart prior to the historical blackouts in the eastern US of 2003
featured Saturn in the degree of the Nodes.
For event charts, it is the Mean Node that should be used, the same as for nativities and horary charts. For
example, in his book, Horary Astrology, Plain & Simple, Anthony Louis illustrates the event chart for the San
Francisco earthquake of 89 in which the Ascendant fell in the degree of the Mean Nodes. Similarly, the event
chart for the earthquake and tsunami in late 2004 showed the Moon to be in the degree of the Moons Mean
Nodes.
Examples of just a few people with planets or significant points in the degree of the Mean Nodes includes Martha
Stewart (Part of Fortune), George W. Bush (Uranus), Bonny Lee Bakely (Venus), Jackie Bouvier
(Ascendant/Descendant).
There are always numerous indicators for any one event and this rule of the degree of the nodes should be judged
alongside the rest of the factors in any kind of chart. My book Eclipses: Predicting World Events & Personal
Transformation contains a catalog of all the coming eclipse charts through the year 2012, with commentary on
each, so its a handy reference for studying potential world events, or to learn more about the impact of eclipses
and the meaning of the lunar nodes in your natal chart. Wishing you all the best in your studies, Celeste Teal
