SINOPSIS:
The course covers topics including the hydrocarbon fluid properties, complex components and challenges
in flow assurance and their properties, flow assurance monitoring, management and mitigation strategies
OBJECTIVES:
Upon the completion of the course, students are expected to be able to:
1. Identify the complex components governing production flow which are imposing flow assurance and
integrity challenges; hydrates, paraffin (waxes), asphaltenes, emulsions, scale, corrosion, erosion and
solid transport and slugging.
2. Analyze and understand the properties of these complex components and its impact on the flow
assurance
3. Evaluate the complex component characteristics and behavior in the design and operations of pipeline
systems.
4. Evaluate and assess the best practices and innovative technologies to maintain integrity of the
pipeline as well as ensuring smooth hydrocarbon flow.

Every student is responsible for all the materials including announcements extended during the lecture
and on the e-learning website. Students who are absent for more than 10% of the total hours without prior
written permission may be barred from sitting for the final examination.
Evaluation
Assignments: Students are required to attempt the assignments and submit them during the next
lecture. Penalty for late submission is as follows:
Penalty: 1 day late: 5%
2 days late: 10%
3 days late: 20%
4 days late: 30%
5 days late: 40%
1 week late: 50%
>1 week late will not normally be assessed
Test:Tentative date for the test is given in the course schedule. Any changes will be announced during
the lecture prior to the test date. Discuss any potential conflicts well before the test date. Calculators
are allowed in the test.
Final Exam: The final exam is comprehensive. Just like the tests, non-programmable calculators are
allowed.
ANY ACADEMIC DISHONESTY WILL RESULT IN A FAILING GRADE
