STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

NAME: ROHITH NALLA

PROGRAM: MS in MECHANICAL ENGINEERING
INTAKE: FALL 2015

My interest in Engineering goes back to the time I was at school. This interest has only
grown through my years in school and high school, as I have learnt more and more about the
subject. I was always intrigued by the working of complex mechanisms and in order to
understand these concepts further I took part in science fairs and practical workshops. This
exposure taught me the importance of simple and practical design. Further my enthusiasm
towards automobiles and practical aspects of designing a product encouraged me to pursue
my career in engineering.

My exposure to Mechanical Engineering began while pursuing Bachelors Degree at

MALLA REDDY COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING Formerly (C.M. Engineering College)
affiliated to J.N.T.U (Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University) from 2009 to 2013 .
The excellent facilities, courses and faculty have given me a firm background of the
fundamentals in Strength of Materials, Kinematics & Dynamics of Machinery, Production
Technology. It also included Design of Machine Members in the fourth and fifth semesters,
Thermal & Fluid Engineering in the third and fourth semesters, Finite Element Methods. I
find Thermal & Fluid Sciences particularly appealing because it made me realise the depth
of the field and the way Mechanical Engineering can change the world through proper design
and utilization of energy

To meet my Bachelors Degree requirement, I executed a project titled ROBOT TO

RESCUE CHILD FROM BOREWELL HOLE under the expert guidance of Mr
.K.BALA SHANKAR (MS GERMANY) Associate professor at MALLA REDDY
COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING. This enabled me to work with some of the best minds
dedicated to engineering research .I spent more than eight hours a day at my college . I am
glad to say the effort paid off. Mr. K.BALA SHANKAR, my project guide, deemed the
results of my project to be most valuable .The main aim of the project is to Rescue the child
from borewell hole i.e..getting the child from Borewell hole safely without losing life from
the underground. It is of normal size and light weight with six wheels, high tension spring
,LED lights and cctv camera . Working on this project has given me vast practical
knowledge and helped me visualize and design. It has helped me realize that everything we
study in theory might not be that easy to actualize and implement in practice. It has been a
great experience. The project was adjudged as one of the best projects in the college and was
awarded maximum marks during evaluation.

I came to know about California State University Fullerton through my seniors and
careful study of the website and I think that your graduate program perfectly suits all my
requirements. An extremely distinguished faculty, a milieu replete with academic activity and
excellent facilities for research in my fields of interest are the most important factors that
motivated me to choose your University for my graduate studies. I want to prolong my career
as a mechanical engineer in a leading corporation.

One persons life influences the lives of an unbelievable number of people, one of the
most important lessons I learned. Hence the need of responsible actions is always an added
advantage at any point of time. I have learned to accept both criticism and praise with a
positive frame of mind. In conclusion, I would like to add that the essence of University
education lies in the relationship between the student and his department. I feel that
postgraduate study at your University will be the most logical extension of my academic
pursuits and a major step towards achieving my objectives. I would be grateful to you if Im
accorded the opportunity to pursue my studies at your institution and am able to justify your
faith in me.
