Re: Compliance with EU Regulation on Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of

Chemicals (EC 1907/2006) (REACH)
Dear Customer,
We are writing in relation to the above mentioned regulation which came into force in June 2007 and in response
to your recent inquiry.
REACH is an on-going compliance process which will have a significant impact to the business of all
manufacturers, importers and downstream chemical users. All have specific obligations under the new
legislation, and at M-I SWACO we are committed to ensuring full continuity of business relationships, throughout
the implementation of REACH.
We wish to assure you that M-I SWACO (or our upstream supplier) has pre-registered all non exempt substances
we manufacture and/or import into the EU.
REACH requires, amongst other obligations:

pre-registration with the European Chemicals Agency of certain substances (as such, or contained in
preparations/mixtures to the extent where they are not covered by other more specific legislation, or, in
articles if substance is intended to be released during conditions of use) manufactured/used in, or
imported into, the European Economic Area (EEA) by December 1 2008; and

Subsequent registration of certain substances by specified deadlines, depending on the hazard profile
and/or annual manufacture, use or import volumes of the substance by the registrant in question.

Further information and guidance on the REACH Regulation can be found on the European Chemicals Agency
(ECHA) website (http://echa.europa.eu/home_en.asp).
Compliance with REACH is essential for the future marketing in the EEA of both M-I SWACO products and any of
your products which incorporate M-I SWACOs product(s). M-I SWACO is therefore dedicated to ensuring
effective REACH compliance for all M-I SWACO products placed on the EEA market whilst maintaining our
relationships with our customers and avoiding business interruption.
All of M-I SWACO chemicals used are either compliant with REACH requirements or are exempt from REACH
registration requirements either because they are listed in the relevant annex or covered under other legislation.
