The OptiX RTN 900 is a new generation TDM/Hybrid/Packet integrated microwave transmission system
developed by Huawei. It provides a seamless microwave transmission solution for mobile communication
network or private networks.

OptiX RTN 900 Product Family

The OptiX RTN 900 series provide a variety of service interfaces and can be installed easily and configured
flexibly. The OptiX RTN 900 series provide a solution that can integrate TDM microwave, Hybrid microwave, and
Packet microwave technologies according to the networking scheme for the sites, achieving smooth upgrade
from TDM microwave to Hybrid microwave, and from Hybrid microwave to Packet microwave. This solution
meets the transmission requirements of 2G, 3G, and LTE services while also allowing for future network evolution
and convergence.
There are five types of OptiX RTN 900 V100R005C01 products: OptiX RTN 905, OptiX RTN 910, OptiX RTN

The OptiX RTN 905 adopts a split structure. The system consists of the IDU 905 and the ODU.
Each ODU is connected to the IDU 905through an IF cable.

IDU 905:
The IDU 905 is the indoor unit for an OptiX RTN 905 system. It receives and multiplexes
services, performs service processing and IF processing, and provides the system control and
communications function.
The OptiX RTN 905 V100R006C00 supports three types of IDUs: IDU 905 1A, IDU 905 2A, and IDU
905 1C, and therefore can form the OptiX RTN 905 1A , 2A, and 1C systems..

ODU
The ODU is the outdoor unit for the OptiX RTN 900. It converts frequencies and amplifies signals.
The OptiX RTN 900 product series can use the RTN 600 ODU and RTN XMC ODU, covering the entire
frequency band from 6 GHz to 42 GHz.
NOTE:
Unlike the other frequency bands that use 14 MHz, 28 MHz, or 56 MHz channel spacing,
the 18 GHz frequency band uses 13.75 MHz, 27.5 MHz, or 55 MHz channel spacing.

There are two methods for mounting the ODU and the antenna: direct mounting and separate
mounting.

The direct mounting method is generally adopted when a small- or medium-diameter and

single-polarized antenna is used. In this situation, if one ODU is configured for one antenna,
the ODU is directly mounted at the back of the antenna. If two ODUs are configured for one
antenna, an RF signal combiner/splitter (hence referred to as a hybrid coupler) must be
mounted to connect the ODUs to the antenna
The direct mounting method can also be adopted when a small- or medium-diameter and
dual-polarized antenna is used. Two ODUs are mounted onto an antenna using an orthomode
transducer (OMT). The method for installing an OMT is similar to that for installing a hybrid
coupler

Direct mounting:

The separate mounting method is adopted when a large- or medium-diameter and

single- or dual-polarized antenna is used

Huawei OptiX RTN 905 Microwave Network Transport

System
The RTN series IP microwave radio is an all IP designed radio system with key
Ethernet features supporting the Mobile Broadband Backhaul industry. Products
include the RTN 905, RTN 950 and RTN 980 which are based on a modular design
that supports multiple microwave radio paths in one platform.
The RTN microwave radio platform can support the future All-IP applications, while
ensuring that each type of traffic has the appropriate E2E QoS. The platform can also
provide transmission features that include high modulation, adaptive modulation,
Ethernet Header compression to help our customers lower the cost per bit
transmitted, helping reduce TCO.
RTN900 series consists of the RTN 910, RTN 950 and RTN 980. The RTN 905, 1U-high
with one or two RF directions, is mainly used for access layer.. The RTN 950 is 2Uhigh with multi-RF directions and is mainly used at the convergence layer. The RTN
980, a 5U-high Nodal system, can converge up to 14RF directions + 1 Add / Drop
interface. All the RTN series microwave radios use the same type of Outdoor Units
(ODUs) and antennas.
Features

LTE Ready, Helps Network Evolution Towards All-IP Backhaul

The RTN 900 leading TDM/Hybrid/Packet/Routing unified platform (4 modes in 1),
supports smooth evolution, allows operators to choose the optimal technology (TDM,
native Ethernet, MPLS-TP or L3VPN) and timing for the network with both
Synchronous Ethernet and IEEE1588v2, the RTN 900 platform meets the phase and
frequency synchronization for GSM/UMTS/LTE, and operators can flexibly choose the
optimal synchronization solution at each network transformation stage, instead of
GPS.
Ultra Broadband, Meeting Backhaul Capacity Expansion
The RTN 900 platform utilizes hitless adaptive modulation (AM) to adjust bandwidth
and enhance spectrum usage. Compared with the fixed modulation mode, the AM
technology can increase transmission bandwidth by up to 4 times and cut the
spectrum expense.
Thanks to the XPIC and header compression technologies, the maximized capacity of
one channel can reach 2Gbit/s, providing large bandwidth for mobile backhaul. In
addition, the radio supports Link Aggregation (LAG)/Physical link aggregation (PLA) in
N+ 0 configuration to maximize the capacity. The Gbit/s capacity is achieved through
microwave radio in traditional RF bands, meeting the bandwidth requirement of LTE.
Networking Solution, Reducing CAPEX and OPEX
With built-in Ethernet processing platform and networking with multiple RF
directions, the RTN 900 platform helps reduce CAPEX and OPEX, while enhancing
operation efficiency. The RTN 900 platform also features unified NMS for microwave
and optical equipments, including end-to-end service provisioning. Operators can
enable end-to-end service management through a simple point and click. And
advanced TP-Assist solution, support the operation and maintenance of operators'
metropolitan bearer networks as time division multiplexing (TDM) networks develop
toward packet networks , care frees OAM of packet network.
Figure 1 Microwave transmission solution provided by the OptiX RTN 905

NOTE:

In this solution, services accessed by the OptiX RTN 905 can be backhauled by the
OptiX RTN 950/950A/980 after being converged at air interfaces, or be directly backhauled
by the OptiX RTN 905.

When three or more microwave directions are required, cascade several sets of
the OptiX RTN 905 or use the OptiX RTN 950/ 950A/980 that provides more powerful
functions and supports more microwave directions.
